5 Home Style Projects from Beci Orpin’s Sunshine Spaces

Sunshine spaces by Beci Orpin is the latest book to hit my home. And just like all of Beci’s other titles, it’s inspiring me to get crafting again.

If you consider yourself a bit of a novice when it comes to trying a DIY project, fear not! The best thing about crafting is that it’s all a bit of trial and error. So don’t be afraid to try your hand at something. And if it all turns to sh*t (which, honestly, some of mine have), then at least you can say you gave it a go!

Sunshine Spaces is Beci’s fourth book. I know right; she is a crafting machine. I’ve been a huge fan of this designer for years and her creations just keep getting better. So let’s take a look at some of my fave projects from this new release.

5 Home Style Projects from Beci Orpin’s Sunshine Spaces

1. Pet Pyramid

You’ll see this stunning creation in the hero image above. This clever pet house was born from Beci’s hatred for unattractive cat scratch poles. I hear you sister! Having two cats of my own, I’m still baffled as to why scratch poles for felines have to be so shockingly ugly. Beci is of the same thinking.

This little house is suitable for cats or small dogs, and you can jazz up the side of it with whichever colour fabric takes your fancy. I’m sold on this one. Emi and Mim (my kitties) will be getting one of these in the coming months.

2. Outdoor Cushions

Now, you now how obsessed I am with cushions. I was even banned from buying more, remember? (more on that here). But what my partner failed to included in his request that I cease buying cushions was anything about making cushions. So this project is right up my alley.

Also, is it just me or are cute outdoor cushions so hard to come by? Beci states that she too has been on the long hunt for suitable outdoor comfort, so she feels my pain. Making your own (and decorating them accordingly) sounds like oodles of fun to me!

3. Macrame Chair

Feel like you’re already a bit of a craft whiz? Firstly, I salute you. Secondly, this project has your name written all over it. Beci admits that this is one of the more laborious projects in the book and there is a fair bit of work involved. But take a look at the results. I’m sure you’ll agree that the effort pays off.

I love the fact that you can choose your own colours as well. You could make a set of four in complementary shades to create an outdoor space that feels connected but unique.

4. Sun Umbrella

Oh my word! This has gotta be one of my faves from the book and it’s totally on my list of things to do as Spring approaches. Who thought you could take a standard, plain ol’ umbrella and pimp it up in such a dramatic way? Beci Orpin, clearly!

The great thing about this project is that Beci demonstrates how to achieve the pattern you see above. But she also encourages you to go wild making your own design. If you have little ones, I imagine this would be a fun school holiday project for them to get involved in.

5. Hiding Space

What child wouldn’t want their own awesome canopy to curl up in and hide from the world? Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind one of my own where I could escape to and read magazines. Clearly this is a project that’ll please both young and old.

Like with all of Beci’s projects, there are options to make it your own. And if the kids are getting involved, let them choose the colours and patterns they’d like their canopy to display.

Are you Feeling Crafty?

Hopefully this peek into Sunshine Spaces by Beci Orpin has given you the inspiration you need to get crafting. As I said at the start of this post, it’s all about trial and error. Experimenting with making things is all part of the fun. And I’m sure the kids would love to get hands-on with you at the helm of the project. If nothing else, it’ll get them off their iPads or Playstations, right?

Sunshine Spaces by Beci Orpin is out now. If you’d like to grab a copy for yourself, you can do so here.
