For too long, Coogee in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs has been the Jan Brady to Bondi’s Marcia. But now, thanks to the brand new Coogee Pavilion, this suburb has a hot new drawcard that’s filled with nautical decor and seaside chic. Let’s take a look inside the updated establishment!
One look at this new fit-out will have you muttering ‘Bondi who?’. The changes that have taken place here are nothing short of extraordinary! The new-look Coogee Pavilion opened its doors on July 22 and everyone is raving about the nautical decor inside.
Bright, relaxed and playful is what the designers of the space were going for in terms of aesthetic and I reckon they’ve nailed it. Mirroring the laid-lack lifestyle of the seaside suburb, the Pavilion interior features a collection of board and arcade games plus books about the sea that conjure up a sense of nostalgia (a giant scrabble board and noughts & crosses game on one of the walls are just a few of the whimsical inclusions).
The internal structures have been pared back to expose the history of the building, too, giving the venue an industrial feel, while the ground floor is set to be a place to showcase the work of local weavers, knitters, woodworkers and metal-makers.
It’s been a while since I’ve hit Coogee but I think I’ll have to make the trek from the inner west to explore this nautical wonderland. I adore this kind of design so I think I’ll go bananas over it in-person!
What do you think of the new space? Is this your kind of decor and architecture?

I kinda like Nautical, but I LOVE Industrial Chic – this looks like it might marry the two. Interesting to see what it looks like in reality, either way a fabulous fresh face to Coogee!
