Meet Handmade Kids Wall Art brand Olivia and Will
By Maggie Pana.
Let me introduce you to the very creative Melbourne business Olivia+Will. I had the pleasure of chatting to the lovely lady behind the brand, Freya, about her work recently and was so impressed by the passion she had for her creations.
So impressed that we decided to run a giveaway – details at the end of the interview!
When did you start your business?
“I started back in May 2015 after returning from living overseas and travelling for two years. I came back very inspired and couldn’t wait to begin creating. I’ve always been interested in and had a passion for the creative arts. I grew up learning embroidery techniques, sewing and doing lots of crafty things so it’s a natural progression for me”.
Where are you based?
“I work from my studio in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. This is a creative hub for Olivia+Will that I enter and have to be prised out of”.
Where do you sell your work? Markets? Website? Social media?
“Olivia+Will pieces are currently made to order and can be purchased by contacting me through our social media Instagram account or by emailing email@example.com“.
We will soon be selling through selected homewares boutiques. Keep an eye on our Instagram account @oliviaandwill for details on where you’ll be able to pick up one of our pieces.
How long does it take you to complete a piece?
“Our weavings take anywhere between 12 to 18 hours depending on the design. A lot of love goes into each and every piece making them truly unique. Our large feathered headdresses take about three to four hours to carefully piece together”.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
“A lot of my inspiration is gathered from my travels. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel the world at different times as a fashion buyer over the past 10 years. The colours, textures and cultures experienced along the way provide a never ending source of creative inspiration. As a buyer I’m naturally inclined to gather inspiration from anywhere and everywhere whether it be social media, print, music, travel or just my surroundings”.
What’s next for Olivia+Will?
“I’m currently increasing our offer to feature smaller artwork for the bedside table as well as extra large statement pieces for the home. I also have a range of pillows and some other soft furnishings in the pipeline featuring textured Olivia+Will prints. We’re also working on a new website to launch later this year”.
