My adventures in Dubai are still in full swing, and one of the things I was looking forward to the most (apart from my spa treatment which is tomorrow and sure to be bliss-filled) was an evening under the stars in the desert of Dubai.
It happened last night and I must say that it was truly magical. We drove about 40 minutes out of the city via bus to the Platinum Heritage, then got in vintage Landrovers and hit the sand of the Dubai desert. After a falcon show, the sun began to set. Moments later, the moon rose. It was kind of breathtaking and trust me when I say that the photos in this post don’t do it justice.
The desert in Dubai is dead quiet so it’s initially eerie and then beautifully peaceful. After we snapped some photos of the sunset, it was back in the Landrover and off for a traditional dinner under the stars. While the traditional food was divine and plentiful (I’m going to come back at least five kilos heavier) the highlight of the evening had to be the camel ride, which was fun and slightly scary at the same time.
Thankfully the camels were wearing something over their mouths so they didn’t have a chance to spit at me, nor did they smell anywhere near as bad as I was expecting them to. Actually, I don’t recall them smelling badly at all, but good Lord are they larger in real life than you expect them to me.
It’s safe to say I’m having a ball in Dubai. Tomorrow, as mentioned, I have my spa treatment, which I’ve been hanging out for since we landed (massage, please) and a few more activities before we depart on Wednesday!
I’d love to get some recommendations from you on any things you think I should check out in my downtime. Drop a comment below and share 🙂
I’ve never been to Turkey, Wita. I’ll have to pop it on my list of places to see. London and New York are currently sitting in second and third place 🙂
Dubai sounds awesome! I almost went there for christmas a few years ago, but decided to go to Turkey instead, which is also very beautiful. Can’t wait to hear more about your Dubai trip!
