Art on Homewares by Kim Leutwyler.

Kim Leutwyler Clock and Cushion

Iโ€™ve become a bit captivated by Kim Leutwyler art. Not only are the styles so varied, but the range of surfaces you can spread them across is pretty amazing, too; prints, cards, mugs, cushions, clocks, iPhone cases and more. Itโ€™s a union between art and homewares that is an undeniable match made in heaven!

One look at Kimโ€™s art and you thank your lucky stars she decided to ditch the dream of becoming an accountant. She actually received an accounting scholarship and wanted to be a CPA, but was โ€œstruck with the horrible realisation that I had made a mistake,โ€ she tells me.

Flash forward a few years and this talented 30-year old, now based in Sydney, is showing her work both locally and overseas (her artย is set to be displayed on a video billboard in Time Square at the end of the month!).

Though she has a stack of art styles, Iโ€™m most smitten with her watercolors. Kim tells me itโ€™s been a fairly recent love affair thatโ€™s seen her explore gender identity and her love of landscapes. The paintings utilise watercolours and gouache – and some feature figures, too; โ€œI always have the urge to add a figure,โ€ Kim says.

Kimโ€™s first show is this Saturday, July 12 at Zigiโ€™s Art and Wine Bar.
