I’m addicted to stationery. Let it be known.
I love wrapping paper and cards so much that it hurts sometimes. I collect both, actually, so that when a special occasion comes around I have them on hand. It’s completely normal and really well organised, I think (that’s what I tell myself anyway).
I recently discovered Aussie brand Colour & Chaos on Instagram and started experiencing fits of joy and rapture over its designs. It turns out that creator Jodi English only opened the store in December last year, so I thought it only made sense to expose you to her magic so you can follow along and feed your own stationery addiction.
A Sydney graphic designer, Jodi’s passion for colour, patterns and all things paper was the driving force behind her opening Colour & Chaos – and that love is very evident in her designs. That said, it was more than just love that prompted her to start creating her own range.
“When purchasing gift wrap, I find there is often limited options for quality (unfolded!) gift wrap, so I decided to jump right in and launch my online store,” she tells me, which is something I can completely appreciate. I find oodles of stores sell folded wrapping paper varieties, but anyone who’s into gift giving knows that folds are not your friend!
It’s the bright and bold colours and patterns that I’m loving in this range of wraps and cards (the wrap is double sided too, which is also something I fully appreciate). Jodi is a fellow colour lover but admits that she’s “constantly torn between my love for vibrant, bright colour palettes, and more neutral and monochromatic tones”.
Of course, the monochromatic colour story does find its way into some of her designs, but for the most part it’s all about high-velocity hue. My faves from the collection are the flamingo prints, love hearts and leaf motifs, but there really is a bit of something for everyone here. What resonates the most with me is Jodi’s belief that the presentation of a gift is just as important as the gift itself. I have always known this to be true!
“We live in a world filled with a constant stream of digital information, it’s so nice to take the time to wrap something beautifully for someone special,” Jodi tells me. “I love that presents excite and inspire and the gift wrap alone can bring an element of pure surprise and delight”.
I am living for and loving your work Jodi. If you’re fond of Colour & Chaos, see the competition below where you can get your hands on some of it to add to your own collection!
