Looking for cheap rugs online can be like searching through the sales bin at Myer on Boxing Day; time-consuming and full of disappointment! Thankfully, TLC has found some newbies on the market that’ll end your floor rug hunt once and for all.
Local brand Urbaani is responsible from bringing the rugs and runners you see in this post into the country from overseas, where they’re made by HRD Carpets; a Swedish company that’s 60 years old.
What makes them so special is that they’re Scandinavian-inspired, on-trend and have international flair. The dynamic patterns in these durable PVC rugs also make them visually pleasing and easy to clean.
The double-sided design is pretty impressive too, allowing you to turn your rug over to create a whole new look in your space.
Of course, some budget rugs you might score for next to nothing don’t stand the test of time, but that’s not the case with these beauties. They strike the perfect balance between quality and affordability – and they’re suitable for indoors and out.
“We can see them working well in hallways, laundries, bathrooms, kids’ rooms, outdoors, around the pool and in stylish kitchens,” Kylie from Urbaani tells me.
She goes on to explain that it was a meeting with the Managing Director of HRD that compelled her to bring the rug range down under.
“We were immediately impressed with his ethos and company reputation,” she says. “The company community is very close knit, they take pride in their work and love producing stylish rugs and runners. He and most of his team have been with the company since their teens”.
Urbaani will be launching the new rugs and runners from HRD at this month’s Sydney Life Instyle event (click here to find out more).
“The event is well known for showcasing brands and products on the chic side of style and design,” Kylie tells me, “and so we’re really excited to be showcasing the range to design and media folk”.
These gorgeous floor coverings start from just $250 for the 70x150cm runner and go up to $850 for the 200x300cm. Great pricing in my books considering they’ll last for years.
Visit the Urbaani website for more info. Stockist info coming soon – so I’ll keep you posted!

I’m currently having trouble finding a rug I like in a sufficiently large size (at least 2 x 3m).
Do you know if any carpet stockists who are willing to make rugs out of carpet? I’ve seen some nice wool carpet that I like, but I can’t find anything similar in a rug.
