Why you’ll Fall in Love with BEAN Home & Body
Homewares give me heart palpitations most of the time, but the ones in today’s post took things to a whole other level. I only discovered BEAN Home & Body last week but I don’t think it’s too early to call it love at first click. Luxury, individuality and quality are the three key ingredients in this Melbourne brand’s recipe for success – and once you cast your eyes over their decor gems, I’ve no doubt you too will be smitten.
The online store for all things phenomenal has only been open for a month and is the brainchild of local Creative Candace Reeves. It’s an endeavour she’d been wanting to undertake for quite some time and finally took the plunge this year.
“I had been wanting to start a business for a long time but never found the courage to take the leap,” Candace explains. “I have enjoyed my past jobs but I wanted to do something that makes me truly happy”.
Following your creative passion is one thing I admire in people. Of course it’s risky (take it from me), but the benefits of loving what you do far outweigh the cons. Candace says that the BEAN online store challenges her everyday and that selecting which pieces she stocks has been an interesting process to navigate through.
“It can be hard to predict what our customers want but I think most of it is just instinct. We also try to focus on locally and ethically made products. I’m drawn to brands that have a similar ethos and a social conscience”.
The added feel-good moment in this story is that a portion of profits from the BEAN online store are donated to charity. In fact, each year BEAN will support four charitable projects around the world. This is an important element of the BEAN business model and one that Candace was intent on including from the get-go.
“I have done a lot of volunteering locally and overseas, and have seen firsthand how lucky I am,” Candace says. “So I knew that whatever my business was, it needed to give back to the community and help others less fortunate”.
Below is one of my fave pieces from the store – the Ettie Ink art – which are printed on wood blocks and are sure to give your space some colourful wow-factor. Candace is also a fan, but tells me that the cushions and cement pots are the best sellers.
“The Aura linen cushions have been so popular. They are such a well loved brand, and for good reason. Concrete homewares are huge at the moment, so we have done really well with the Peace of Me pots and candles”.
I always wonder when people run homewares stores, if the pieces they stock all end up in their own homes. I know I wouldn’t be able to hold back, that’s for sure. For the most part, Candace has managed to behave herself when it comes to the BEAN online store.
“It is incredibly hard but I have shown good restraint. Except for the candles. I don’t think you can go past a good candle. Our Alchemy and Zen candles smell divine”.
I am loving everything about BEAN Home & Body. I love that it’s local, I love that it supports charity and I simply adore the unique and bespoke feel the decor has to it.
