Don’t let Easter be the forgotten holiday this year. There are loads of Easter ideas you can bring onto your tabletop that’ll make it look amazing without costing you a fortune. Let’s take a look at how you can do an Easter table on a budget.

The good thing about the ideas I want to share with you today is that you can use a lot of the stuff you already have in your house. You’ll only need to pop out to pick up a few affordable inclusions that’ll really elevate the look of the table setting. The ideas here also allow you to invest as much or as little money as you wish into the look. It’s totally up to you.

These tips come off the back of an Easter ideas segment I hosted on The Morning Show back in 2014, but the concepts are timeless. The theme I’m showing you here is a Woodlands theme, which is super simple to rock at home and will appeal to both kids and adults.

Creating an Easter Woodlands Theme

The main colours you’ll use in this scheme are white and brown. Green and yellow act as an accent colours and are used in smaller portions.

To start, lay down a white tablecloth. Almost everyone has one, but if you don’t, grab one from Big W for $21. The beauty of this is that you can use it all year round, so the investment is a good one. If you have a fairly rustic tabletop, like the one you see here, you might opt to let that act as your foundation instead.

On top of that, down the centre of the table, run a strip of synthetic grass. When I did my Morning Show segment, I got a 1metre x 1metre patch from Bunnings for about $20. I simply cut it into a strip about 30cm wide and down the table it rolled.

You could make placements out of the leftover synthetic grass, simply by placing a plate face-down on the grass, tracing around it, then cutting the circular shape out. Both this and the table runner can be kept and used every year, so again, not a bad investment!

Down the centre of the table, we need ornaments at varying heights. I like to mix glass vases, mason jars, old tins (wrap old tins in decorative paper if you’re on a budget) and other votives down the table runner. In them, place a combination of flowers, twigs, chocolate eggs etc – but ensure they stay in the white/yellow/green/brown colour story.

Also look for pieces around your home that are woven, like rattan and wicker. Anything in a material like this will play into the woodlands theme perfectly, as will industrial items like decorative cages.

Use food as decoration – that you’ll eat on the day. Scatter eggs around the table, place some hot cross buns in a large basket and don’t be afraid to bring in treats like cupcakes, too. All of this saves you money but makes the table setting feel full.

You’ll need some Easter-themed items. Below are some good options from Kmart, Target and Big W. They’re all as cheap as chips, and again, you’ll use them every year. If you want to invest in some more expensive pieces, Pottery Barn do some amazing stuff around Easter.

Layering is really important too. In between plates and bowls, for example, layer paper napkins in white and yellow. It’s the most budget way to add texture and visual interest to the setting.

All in all, the message I want to send here is that Easter ideas like this don’t have to cost a bomb. It’s really about using pieces you have around the house. Using nature (like twigs, flowers, pine cones etc) really adds to the Woodlands theme and it costs you nothing because you’re sourcing it all from your own backyard. Well, maybe not the flowers, but for the most part, it’s all stuff you probably already have.
