Reno Rumble 2016 has already come to an end. Is it just me or does it feel like this series went crazy fast? In today’s post I’m showing you three of the best spaces from this season’s room reveals. I wonder if you’ll agree with me.
I have to say that this season on Reno Rumble, the kitchens were by far the standout spaces. I mean, sure, there was some other super-stylin’ rooms (Lisa and John’s week three bathroom was divine). And there were definitely some standout bedrooms (Sarah and Renee’s kids room was utterly gorgeous). But I have to say that the kitchens were king this year and deserve their own special mention.
Below I’ll outline my fave three kitchens from Reno Rumble 2016, all of which came courtesy of the divine gang at Freedom Kitchens – the exclusive supplier of kitchens to the popular Channel 9 series. The added bonus is that you’ll walk away with some ideas you can steal for your own home, so let’s do this!
Reno Rumble 2016: This Season’s Best Kitchens
Leanne and Dane’s Week 1 Kitchen
The Style:
Leanne and Dane opted for a simple and modern Scandi aesthetic in this week one kitchen design, using a traditional Scandi palette that really opened up the space. It was clean and fresh, feeling modern and on-trend, but with a style that won’t date quickly, either.
What Makes it so Special:
The U-shaped design was a good idea here, and the Caesarstone benchtop not only looked awesome but gave the home owner’s a large workspace to utilise. The cabinetry, in Alaskan Gloss Royal Oyster and Impressions Sublime Teak, was such a wise colour choice. And it played so nicely with the black tile splashback; the kitchen’s stunning focal point.
Ideas you can Steal for your own Home:
The easiest way to bring some of Leanne and Dane’s kitchen style into your own home is to create a breakfast bar at your benchtop, using stools that tuck under the bench when you’re not using them.

James and Hayley’s Week 2 Kitchen
The Style:
James and Hayley created a homely chic kitchen that utilised two tones that worked in perfect harmony. The colour palette was really well considered here, with a range of textures and finishes used to make the room feel welcoming, visually interesting but not overwhelming. It’s a great space for entertaining.
What Makes it so Special:
The practical aspects in this kitchen are what set it apart from some of the others in the series. There was so much storage here, from the cutlery trays to the soft close doors and drawers. The lower cabinet doors, opening to reveal internal drawers, was a gift from the design gods. From a visual point of view, the herringbone splashback tiles were the standout moment in the space, and really bring some modern wow-factor to an otherwise timeless kitchen.
Ideas you can Steal for your own Home:
The cabinetry – in Impressions Nocturn Oak and Iceland White Satin – provide an amazing contrast, and stop the room feeling too matchy-matchy. If you’re not looking to re-do your cabinetry, consider hanging some eye-catching pendant lights above your bench like James and Hayley have. They’re amazing!

Scott and Nadia’s Week 5 Kitchen
The Style:
Scott and Nadia went for a Hamptons feel here, but you’ll notice that it’s not a traditional blue and white scenario. Instead, they’ve been more carefully considered in their approach to colour, creating a kitchen that feels elegant, refined and yet casual at the same time.
What Makes it so Special:
Dual colours of matt black and white combine beautifully with the Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo benchtop. It’s marble-like appearance is what helps to create that polished, sophisticated look. There’s also a wonderful mix of old and new here – and that glass splashback, looking out to the backyard, is all sorts of amazing.
Ideas you can Steal for your own Home:
If you want to add a bit of Hamptons style to your own home, you can do this with as little as a change of your cabinetry handles. The ones here (chrome cup and chrome bar handles) are a great idea; a cost-effective way to breathe new life into an old home.
