Share how you Bend the Rules to win $10,000 from HP

I’ve been a rule breaker for years, Creatives, ignoring some of the stuff the stylists, mags and media tell us about home decorating. In today’s post, I’m not only sharing how you too can bend some rules for a home that rocks, but telling you how you can win $10,000 from HP, simply by sharing how you bend the rules using the hashtag #BendTheRulesAustralia.

This is a TLC Solution for Nuffnang and HP

Small Room Styling

First things first; small rooms.

Everything we’ve been told about small spaces suggests that they be splashed white or beige to make them appear larger. Bend the rules here, embrace the fact that your room is small and play up its cosy sense of intimacy! No amount of white paint is going to move your walls out or your roof up, so create a dark, moody nook in a small room and add vibrant, colourful accessories to create interest. This works especially well in bathrooms and other spaces you won’t be spending a heap of time in.

Vignette Styling

Vignettes need not stress you out

There’s no need to attend a class on vignette styling, Creatives. Bend the rules and ditch what you might be hearing about creating these scenes at home. First and foremost, a vignette should display the things you love, pure and simple. Forget the rule of three, too;  as long as you have items at varying heights and textures to create a visual story, you’re going to have a vignette that rocks. That’s all there is to it!

Paint Place Blue and Green

Blue and green should never be seen?

I have no idea where this concept came from, but bend the rules with this one and consider bringing these colours together in your home. Especially going into summer, these cool colours will make your space feel inviting. All you need to do is add some yellow  pops and you have a tropical colour palette that’s perfect for living spaces, bedrooms and outdoor areas. This is one of my all-time fave colour stories. Doesn’t it make you smile?

Interior Design Styles - Eclectic

Avoiding one style for your home

Despite what you may have been told, the best rooms are the ones that do what I call ‘interior grazing’; picking bits and pieces from a variety of styles and trends and meshing them together. A room that plays by the rules too much ends up looking over-themed – and it’s a trap you want to avoid. To interior graze successfully, try not to buy sets of furniture. A dining table, for example, looks amazing with mismatched chairs – both old and new – and it gives the room a rich style story.
