5 Budget Spring Decorating Ideas

We are a little spoilt in Australia; the spring months here are nothing like the spring months in the northern hemisphere. We whinge about how cold it is in winter, but really, we only suffer for a few (long) weeks until the sun makes its appearance again and the days get longer.

We can already feel the seasons changing which is a brilliant opportunity to do a little ‘home’ work and assess your living space before the entertaining season kicks off. Here are five of my tried and tested tips for injecting a little spring cheer into your home.

1. Reassess Your Colours

Has your home fallen into a drab colourless space during the depths of winter? It’s time to spruce it up in preparation for the warmer months ahead. And also to spruce up your own mood!
Colour has profound effects on us, so take the change in seasons as the opportunity to consider a new colour palette for your living space. Opt for three to five new colours to work back with the larger neutral pieces in the space.

2. Add a Touch of Nature

Look to the garden for inspiration and start snipping some fresh spring blooms to arrange in a pretty vase for the coffee table or sign up to a floral subscription service like Daily Bloom or Little Flowers for a weekly bouquet delivery.

3. Patterns and Prints

An easy way to signal spring has sprung is to pop a floral printed cushion on the sofa as the new inspiration for your spring makeover. Large print flowers are a great choice for a look that will blend with your existing space.

4. New China

Host a spring luncheon and use it as a great excuse to buy some new dinner plate sets, napery and glassware. Colour coordinate your plates and glassware to the spring blooms on the table.

5. Get crafty

If you’re feeling arty, try your hand at some watercolour painting. You don’t need to be a qualified artist to give this a go, an afternoon spent with friends and some wine makes for a fun opportunity to create some home made art that you can frame up and hang in a hallway, bathroom or study.
