A Tour of The Life Creative Headquarters – My Humble Home
I did a bit of a clean up on Saturday and thought it might be a good opportunity to show you inside The Life Creative home. After all, the cats were behaving, the sun was shining and I was busy killing time trying to avoid doing homework for my course (procrastination is something I’ve become very skilled at). So here you go, Creatives, it’s not the stuff magazines are made of – but nobody lives in the magazines anyway – so take a squiz and let me know what you think.
The living room is one of my fave places to kick back and relax. Not only because of the fact that Foxtel is in this room (hello Lifestyle Home), but because the sun floods into the space of an afternoon; it’s a fab place to sit and read one of my homewares books and the cats are always eager to snuggle up in the sun. I’ve only recently added many of the items you see above thanks to my IKEA living room makeover. The rug and coffee table are a few of my fave pieces.
I have a lot of colour throughout the space because sadly my editing skills are a bit lacklustre; I just can’t cut back on hue! I’ve done my best to use wood, white and black to ground the space – and added a bit of my own flavour through vintage and second-hand finds I’ve found on my many adventures. I guess I would sum up the living and dining area as a bit of an industrial colour-pop scheme – if it’s raw or radical, I want it!
Above you’ll see some of the crockery I have collected over the years. Yes, sets are lovely, but I kind of dig plates, bowls and cups that are all a bit mismatched. Again, this is because I can’t edit; if I love it, I buy it, and find a way to work it into the space. I am the Angelina Jolie of homewares; I just keep adopting items and they all just seem to get along wonderfully!
Below, the fridge is the one place where things can become a little cluttered, but as I’ve said in the past, I think it’s important for your space to feel uniquely yours, so I display photos and keepsakes on the fridge where I’ll see them all the time.
Above and below is my office and bedroom space. It’s a long area that was originally two rooms, but the wall in-between got knocked down at some point, so it’s a multi-purpose area where the snoozing, study and blogging goes down.
Above is my desk; I always have a homewares book and candle within easy reach, and love having a cork board to display quotes or business cards from the Creatives I’ve met along the way. The C3 scrabble piece I picked up from Typo; it came out months after I got a C3 tattoo on my wrist so it was a definite must-have for my wall!
What do you think, Creatives? I hope this blog post has inspired you to send in your own photos for the Real Rooms segment of the blog. As you can see, real life is often messy, not overly styled and not at all matching, so get out your camera, snap away and send me some pics – firstname.lastname@example.org
