Inside the Home of The Stylist Splash
If you’re an avid Instagram user it’s impossible not to have gushed over The Stylist Splash. Its creator, Yvette Wilson, has a sense of style best described as bright, bold, colourful and fun.
Having accumulated over 35,000 followers on Insta alone, the photos Yvette shares are dreamy and decor-filled. But how did she put her colourful North-East Melbourne home together? TLC spoke with the Melbourne mumma and brand rep to find out just that.
“My home was originally built in the 1950s,” Yvette tells me when we caught up this week gone by. “It’s a weatherboard house, and with my husband being in the building industry he knew he could renovate and extend our house to make it look the way it does today”.
Yvette’s five bedroom, three bathroom house is home not only to her, but her hubby Brendan, three children – Lachy, Olivia and Archer – plus dog Monty and cat Lava.
Situated only 20 short minutes from the Melbourne CBD, the suburb’s leafy outlooked appealed to the family, and with Brendan having grown up there, they decided to settle down in the area.
The light-filled property features a divine open plan living, kitchen and dining area that’s the undeniable hub of the home. It’s a space Yvette’s marked as one of her favourites (and you can see why, right?).
“I love my living room at home,” she explains. “It’s a massive space with an equally massive modular couch that the five of us can easily spread out on and catch up on our favorite shows. It also looks out to our pool in the backyard which I love to look at”
Although there’s a distinctly vibrant aesthetic at play in this property, Yvette tells me that the home’s design has evolved over time without too much initial planning taking place on the decor front.
Having renovated and extended the home over the 14 year’s she and her family have lived there, Yvette tells me that she draws inspiration for her home’s design from numerous sources.
“I love Pinterest and I love instagram, these are my main influencers. Also I love to read magazines, and my favourites are Inside Out and Home Beautiful magazine. I even gather inspiration from some catalogues and junk mail”.
Yvette names the copper lamp from Salt & Pepper as one of her fave decor pieces, which sits on the trestle-style desk from Freedom; another of her top picks. In fact, she tells me that although her home is filled with lovely large pieces of furniture, it’s the more petite decor gems that she’s most drawn to.
“I love shopping at all different stores, but some of my favorite pieces are smaller items that I love to style with”.
