Inside the New Marimekko Sydney Store

I was walking back from fabric shopping last week when, out of nowhere, I lost my mind. I saw the sign for the new Marimekko Sydney store – which has landed in the CBD – and popped right in to snap the magic!

EDIT 08/10/09: Marimekko has moved from their King St, Sydney location. For the most up to date locations refer to their website.

This Finnish design company has been making breathtaking and original prints and fabrics since 1951 and their stores are now spreading like wildfire (the Melbourne store is set for opening before Christmas).

Now that they’re manufacturing and selling not only textiles but fashion, homewares and things for kids, there’s a slice of Marimekko that’ll appeal to everyone. The staff were super helpful too and were more than happy to lend a hand when I started having my designer-loving heart palpitations and snapped these pics, especially when I encountered their Christmas range!

Marimekko Christmas StockingNow, while I was caught up in the awesomeness and abundance of fabrics on the ground floor, some of the mugs upstairs (yes, there’s a whole other level to explore) were the best part of my Marimekko adventure. And for those of you with children, their kids corner with bed linen will not disappoint. Even if you don’t buy anything, the store itself is so nicely set out that you’ll benefit just from a wander through!
