Before Meets After: Inside a Kitchen Renovation.
I love seeing the Real Rooms of TLC readers – especially when their blood, sweat and tears has gone into making it look amazing. Case in point is the kitchen renovation in today’s post; performed by Michelle Johnston and her partner. They took this busy space from hum drum to hot tamale – and I have the after shots to prove it!
Above: This kitchen is typical of a Perth home in the 1960’s. It’s fairly cramped and with minimal bench space. The dark walls are also not helping the space feel any larger, while the microwave is the first place your eyes go when you walk in. Not the greatest focal point, right?
Below: White Walls and glossed cabinetry make this space feel bright and open. By creating an island, Michelle has made improved the flow, while the pendant lights give a clear focal point for the room (that looks a lot nicer than a microwave!).
As you can see in the shot above, the microwave now has a designated space to live, and is no longer the first place your eyes go when you walk into the space. The yellow stools are a gorgeous pop of colour and help to make the space feel modern. Reflective bench tops also bounce light around the room – a great trick in a small space!
