A look at Cathy Elsmore’s Black, Yellow and White Living Room

Black, Yellow and White living room

You all responded so well to Cathy Elsmore’s glorious before-and-after boudoir that I had to do a bit of a back-by-popular-demand scenario and show you another room in her home. This time around, I’m showcasing her lovely living room, which sports an on-trend black, yellow and white colour palette and is filled with my favourite things – cushions! Read on for more photos and Cathy’s vision for the room.

Furniture aside (which is stunning) I’m rather impressed by Cathy’s grey wall – a daring move that would intimidate many.

“I wanted to create a space that was welcoming and bright,” Cathy tells me. “But as my lounge suite was white, I needed to create a backdrop that would enhance it so it didn’t fade into the wall behind”.

Mission accomplished I say; this wall colour is bold enough to make a statement but doesn’t dominate the space, allowing the lounge suite to pop and for the colourful accessories to take centre stage.

The art on Cathy’s wall is another standout. The best part of this story is that she created it herself (I love a fellow DIYer!).

“I used IKEA frames and mats, cut out the fabric I sourced from Spotlight, taped it to the back of the mat, replaced the backing board and came up with three new pieces of personalised artwork,” she says.

A room created on a tight budget, Cathy picked up other pieces for the space from Salt and Pepper, eBay, Home Republic and The Reject Shop.

“Not everyone has thousands of dollars to hand over for a room makeover,” Cathy concludes. “My motto is ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’, so haggle”.

What do you think of this black, yellow and white colour palette? I can’t get enough of it. Drop me a comment below and share your thoughts on Cathy’s space.

Another gorgeous room! Not a big fan of yellow, doesn’t work in my house but these neutrals would go with any scheme. Love your money saving ideas!

I have seen this room in real life and it is even better than the photo’s show. Cathy has a real talent for interior design. Her bedroom is to die for and the family room is stunning and inviting. I will definately ask for some advice from Cathy next time we redecorate.

I truly love this room, it’s modern, but certainly not daunting, like a lot at the moment, not too many different colours, and to think how much this room didn’t cost. And I’m with you, would never of given that grey used on back wall, never ever. Thanks for reminding us, who don’t have ‘buckets’ of money, that u just don’t need it, I’m very impressed and can’t wait to view Cathy’s next project, especially the ones that can be achieved on a budget.
Ready please. P.s. what state does Cathy work in and what company or is she freelance?? Lovely, truly
