Now, I’m a person who has historically turned her nose up at frozen meals. But the fact is that life is busy, time is precious, and I don’t always feel like spending 45 minutes – or even 20 minutes – in the kitchen at the end of a long day. I’ve recently discovered meals from Hit 100, which are a simple, hassle-free option for me (and you) to keep in the freezer for those nights you can’t be bothered cooking.
So what is Hit 100?
If I had to give you the ‘in 25 words or less version’ of what Hit 100 is I’d say that it’s a complete health solution for those living with diabetes, pre-diabetes and anyone simply looking to lead a healthier lifestyle. Phew… four words to spare. And you read right; the meals aren’t just for those living with diabetes; anyone can enjoy them.
Hit 100 is actually so much more frozen meals though, so it’s lucky I’ve got the rest of the blog post to explain things a little better.
What is the Hit 100 Aim?
Hit 100 is a health-tech start-up that was launched to tackle the growth of type II diabetes, and to help people (with or without diabetes) to live a healthier life with minimal fuss.
They’re currently doing this via a meal delivery service, dietitian coaching and a growing community network including their blog and Facebook page.
“At Hit 100 we want to generate sustainable, healthy behaviour change,” says CEO Karn Ghosh. “And we want to help create a world in which everyone has access to the resources that allow them to live a healthy lifestyle”.
Variety and Convenience
The Hit 100 meal delivery service offers an array of tasty, home-style breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, plus snacks. Portions are generous and – even with my voracious appetite – I always feel comfortably satisfied at the end of a meal.
So far I’ve eaten my way through around 75% of the menu, and I’m yet to find something I don’t enjoy. My absolute favourite is the crumbed fish with salsa verde (seriously amazing!) followed closely by the chicken tikka masala and salmon pasta bake.
Meals are delivered frozen, which means you don’t lose precious nutrients, and most of them take around six minutes in the microwave (or 20-25 minutes in the oven) to cook. They also have a small but delicious range of low GI snack bars, which taste amazing.
Affordable and Healthy
The meals are affordable – check out their meal deals page here – and incredibly healthy.
And if you’re looking at it from a diabetes-management perspective then you should note that they’re already reporting great feedback from customers around improved blood sugar levels, mood and general quality of life.
Currently meals are only available throughout greater Sydney, but, Ghosh says “We’re excited to roll out our meal delivery offering nationally over the next 12-18 months, because we understand that there is a huge need throughout the rest of the country for healthy food and access to the resources and tools people need to live happy and healthy lives”.
Why it’s so Important
Want to know something scary? Right now, in Australia, around 3.61 million of us are living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Every single day 280 people are diagnosed with the disease – that’s one person every five minutes.
Diabetes complications can lead to serious health issues like limb amputation, heart attacks, stroke and blindness and yet the most prevalent form of diabetes (type II) is entirely preventable. It just doesn’t make any sense, and that’s exactly why Hit 100 was born.
Ongoing Support
As well as meals, Hit 100 offers dietitian telephone and Skype coaching and support throughout Australia. Their team of qualified dietitians can provide individualised health advice and create tailored health plans for you.
I like to think of it as having a mini dietitian in my pocket, one who’s also able to help me set goals and work through any challenges I’m having. All services are approved under the National Disability Insurance Scheme too, and you can find out more here.
If you’re diabetic or pre-diabetic, have concerns around your diet or even if you’re just someone who struggles to find time and motivation around cooking and preparing food, Hit 100’s complete health solution could be just what the doctor ordered!
