If you live in Sydney or you plan on visiting soon, my brand new book Sydney Precincts is the ultimate carry-size companion. It’s my curated guide to the countries biggest and brightest city, and I’m giving you the chance to win a copy in today’s post!
It’s been a crazy journey, this blogging thing. Who knew that a little over three years ago when I started this blog, that all of the things I’ve achieved so far would occur? Certainly not me. I’ve not only made this blog a pretty successful destination for all things interiors, but I’ve also carved out a career as a stylist, decorator, presenter and now – an author!
It’s definitely been a case of ticking off a few achievements on my bucket list the past few years, and I’m so pleased with how my new book has turned out, after a good year or so in the making.
In putting Sydney Precincts together, I spent many months eating, drinking and shopping my way across the city and its surrounding suburbs. When Hardie Grant publishing first approached me to write the book with them, I wasn’t sure my waistline could accommodate such a large undertaking.
Suffice to say, I made it work, even if it meant a few extra kilometres added to my running schedule to burn off the additional calories. Wining and dining your way through the city’s best restaurants, bars and cafes is not a bad day at the office, and I feel incredibly proud to finally see the book in print.
Sydney Precincts: What’s it all about?
This book serves double duty for locals and tourists, giving you a list of must-see venues across Sydney.
For locals, it acts as motivation to step outside your suburb and explore some of the neighbouring haunts you’ve heard about but not tried yet, as well as the hidden ones you never knew existed.
If it’s one thing I can say about Sydneysiders (and I’m allowed to say it because I lived there most of my life) it’s that they don’t tend to explore a lot beyond their own suburb. Well, this book plans to shake things up a bit, giving you a curated guide to the best nearby eating, drinking and shopping destinations you can make your new local hotspot.
For tourists, it completely cuts the guesswork out of figuring out where to go when you visit Sydney. The book has all of the major, touristy venues in it (like Opera Bar, Bondi Icebergs and other iconic hotspots), but for the most part it’s packed with a tonne of the smaller, hidden gems you might not see on websites or in magazines.
It also encourages you to venture outside the city a little. Because if it’s another thing I can say about Sydney, it’s that SO much is happening on the city fringe and beyond. In fact, most of the stellar places to see and experience aren’t in the CBD itself.
The book is also packed with gorgeous imagery – a lot of which I took myself – as well as all the info you need for each of the recommended venues; names, addresses, phone numbers, opening times and the venues website. So it really does give you everything you need to plan your own little trip across Sydney.

I live in Perth, but love visiting Sydney. Besides the great shopping and eating, the highlight for me will always be the water. I love playing on the ferries and admiring the beautiful houses along the way. The Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House are so iconic, with good reason, there is something comforting just seeing them.
On my last visit I took to exploring the suburbs, which has totally opened up a whole new Sydney for me to see! Looking forward to my next visit and will definitely be getting my hands on this book, so I don’t miss anything!

We had lots of fun exploring Sydney as a family – I’d love to go back and make a return trip to the delicious Flour and Stone bakery and also visit Wendy Whitely’s secret garden for the first time.
I love Sydney weather you can enjoy sunshine at the beach even in Winter
I love the food in Sydney. Especially Laduree.
Love, love, love Sydney and it’s hills, stunning architecture, leafy streets and glimpses of the harbour. And, there’s the world class restaurants, great coffee and cafes, amazing local designers in both fashion and homewares, boutique hotels and the nightlife. And I do love how each little precinct has developed its own persona over the years. So much to explore!
