If kicking back on your own luxury banana lounge with a cocktail in hand sounds like your kinda thing, you need to get all over the reinvented InterContinental Hotel in Sydney’s Double Bay. With a rooftop deck overlooking the harbour and some other very sophisticated inclusions planned for the redevelopment, it’s set to be the city’s new go-to destination for relaxation and grandeur.

As reported in the Daily Mail over the weekend, the Intercontinental will debut its new look venue this November, building on its already stunning aesthetic.
The rooftop space is nothing short of awe-inspiring; open only to hotel guests and overlooking the bay. The architecture studio behind the redevelopment, Bates Smart, intended to reinstate the glamour of the building – and if these images are anything to go by, they’ve certainly achieved that.
The second photo you see in this post is in fact not the lobby as I first thought, but a snap from one of the suites available for you to stay in. Appropriately titled the Royal Suite, it features multiple private balconies, a marbled ensuite and a beyond captivating parquetry floor. D&D did parquetry in their kitchen on The Block last week with stunning results, too (albeit on a much smaller budget I’d say!).
It’s certainly a very sleek and sophisticated space, influenced by European design and with a modest nod to local trends. The bedroom above looks pretty dreamy if you ask me; styled in a subdued and soothing colour palette to evoke a sense of elegant relaxation and calm.
What do you think about the redevelopment? Would you stay in this style of hotel?
