When it comes to inspirational people – and especially inspirational women and mothers – it doesn’t get better than the amazing Kristy Withers from Incy Interiors. She’s one of the most open and giving people I’ve discovered over the past few years editing this blog and is an absolute joy to talk to.
Who better to kick of TLC Interiors’s What I Know About Life series than this lovely lady? In this interview, Kristy chats about work, motherhood, the biggest turning point in her journey and of course – what she knows about life. I’d love to hear from you in the comments below if anything Kristy shares in this chat resonates with you.
What I Know About Life: Kristy Withers
When I was younger, I used to think life was…
All about wearing suits. Growing up my career choices were always geared towards a career where I could wear a suit so upon finishing school I started an Accounting degree. I pretty quickly realised that I wasn’t cut out to be an accountant and I don’t even own a suit!
One of the biggest turning points in my life was…
Quitting my corporate job. I was always one of those people who had a job. I started working holidays when I was 14 and always had a job. I had never quit a job before having another one and stayed for long periods of time once I was there so it was a major shock to take the step to quit my well paid corporate job to start my own business.
Becoming a mother has taught me…
Patience. I want everything to happen now and having children makes you realise that just isn’t a reality.
One of the things I wish people would do more is…
Be nice. It really is a simple thing but it can make such a difference to everyone around them.
The biggest thing I’ve learnt about running a business is…
That there are so many things I don’t know. The only way to deal with things you don’t know is to ask lots of questions and gather as much information as you can on that subject because it is always the things you don’t know or don’t want to know that bring you unstuck.
As I move through life, I’ve come to realise that…
The most important things in life are family, friends and happiness. When I was younger I was always striving for a better job and material items but in my old age I have come to realise those things aren’t important.
If I could tell my younger self one thing, it’d be…
Have the guts to do what you love.
The thing I’ve learnt to love about myself is…
That I think differently. In the corporate world this made life more difficult as I wasn’t just going along with everyone else but having my own business it is a major asset and has gotten us out of many sticky situations.
My hope for the future is…
Oh god I sound all peace, love and alfalfa but my hope for the future is that my family and friends lead happy and fulfilled lives. Obviously if Incy is a roaring success that is an added bonus!
The thing I am most excited about right now is…..
Our new store we are about to open in Bathurst. It is in the most amazing old converted flour mill. We have a HUGE space and we will have not only a retail store there but also our offices and our first ever Incy outlet. We are opening on 23rd July so please come and visit if you are in the area.
The New Incy Interiors Store
Kristy Withers and the team are preparing to open the doors of the brand new Incy Interiors store next Saturday. The store features a new country look and feel, with stacks of old-world charm and a beautiful rustic appeal.
Featuring exposed brick, industrial beams and distressed floorboards, the store’s charming decor is set to contrast beautifully against Incy’s contemporary collection, providing you with an opportunity to select from ex-photoshoot and sample stock including 50 cots and beds at bargain prices.
Check it out from Saturday July 23 at 2A Piper Street, Bathurst. Click here to head to the Incy website.
