decorate by holly becker & joanna copestick
Some books are your coffee table books (you know – you look at the pictures but you’ve never read a word in there) and others are ones you deem a little more educational because they offer actual ideas to make your home amazing. This book by Holly Becker and Joanna Copestick is just that; a practical source of inspiration from some of the globe’s top decorators!
Inspiration from Holly Becker and Joanna Copestick
Now don’t get me wrong; by suggesting this is a book of practicality and education does not for a second mean I don’t pick it up when I need a light bulb moment of something decorative I can do with my living space. This release – a hardcover and over 280 pages in total, is filled to the brim with inspiring pictures that will have you thinking, yes I do need a horse picture to hang above my bed and I am going to hunt for one online right now!
ABOVE: I love the neutral and played-down tones – it evokes a very earthy feel that totally speaks to me! The cushions are also inspiring me to get out my screen printing supplies and whip up a few things.
It’s amazing when you find things in books like this that you have in your own home. Granted, I don’t have a sideboard identical to the one above, but a dear friend did give me one last year that is similar in style and colour. And boy did the cluster of vases pictured make me want to go up to the television I currently have on my side board, push it off onto the floor and yell to my partner “bring me every vase we have!”.
The best part about this book is that it is not only broken up into sections so you can really focus on the room you’re looking to improve, but it has diagrams so you can really delve into the complexities of composition and balance in a room. Not only that, but this wise and wonderful duo also tackle every decorating style imaginable so you can really perfect your look, whether it be flea market chic, modern glamour, sustainable living, relaxed luxury and more. Though I didn’t see ‘Cat Destruction Explosion’ in there, which is what my place seems to resemble at the moment (something for next time, girls).
ABOVE: Those coloured vases on the right not only tap into my obsession with second hand finds and flea markets, but with clashed colour that breaks all the rules! BELOW: Industrial meets classroom chic – I adore it all (and have that lovely red locker in grey at home!)
‘Decorate’ really is the best name for this book because it’s so difficult to define otherwise. It quite simply is a guide on how to make the most of your indoor and outdoor space, ticking every box along the way so that no strategically placed stone is left unturned. And did I mention the amazing quotes from talented artists from around the world? Because this read has stacks of them. From Nate Berkus and Carrie McCarthy to Shannon Fricke and beyond, there are words of wisdom on every page that will make you reevaluate the way you think about your home.
The front cover claims it has 1000 inspirational ideas but I would argue there are far more. And with a directory in the back with gazillions of stockists across the world, you really can hunt down the horse picture for above your bed without too much hassle at all!
