  1. Hi, We are renovating and have a 2.7m long kitchen island (and probably 95cm height) with sink on it. My husband is 6ft 9 (207.5cm) in height so I am struggling with how many pendants, how much space apart from each and height do it still looks connected to the island. We are going modern hamptons style. The kitchen is part of an open plan kitchen, dining and living room (about 15m in length in total). Can you please suggest the how many pendants, spacing, size of lights and height. Many thanks.

  2. Hi Chris, we are renovating an older home, and trying to tie the kitchen and dining room together. We took down a wall between the two rooms, but are now challenged with lighting. I have tried for nearly two weeks, working every day, to find the best lighting. I am exhausted. If I could send you a picture of the plans, you’d see my issues. In words though, we are creating an island 102″ long X 44.5″ wide that runs in the middle of the kitchen/dining room (130″W)…and that island butts up to…connects to… a dining table 78″ long. P.S. We are installing wainscotting on the walls in the dining room. It has been recommended that we put three similar pendants…two on the island, and one over the dining table…spaced equally apart. I need task lighting plus entertaining lights over the island, and entertaining light over the dining table. I was directed to look at 16″ or 18″ lamps. Thus far I’ve found dome down-lighting and drum up and down-lighting. Am I on the right track? The floors will end up oak with a medium varnish and white cabinets. Largo Gold slab for the countertops (which is basically white with light gray/rust waves) will run up the walls also as a backsplash. Thank you for any input as I am at my wit’s end.

  3. Hi we have a kitchen island 2100x 1400. I’m thinking of 2 pendant lights perhaps rattan style or to go with Tasmanian o/scandi coloured floorboards. Suggestions for pendant light sizes, distances apart and good places to look for pendant lights would be appreciated. Thku

    1. Hi Reima, Beacon have some affordable options. Bisque Traders for some more interesting designs. Lighting Collective also stock a wide range from different local and international brands.

Place them about 70cm-80cm apart over the middle of the bench.

  4. Great information thank you! I am installing a 10’ long x 4’ wide island and looking at some pendants with 18” wide shades. I think 3 would look best and wondering what kind of spacing I should do. How far apart and how much space to the edge of the island? Thanks!

  5. We are installing a kitchen island bench 3.5m long and 0.9 m wide. We are purchasing pendant dome lights with diameter 0.35 m, and intend them to be evenly spaced along the bench. Should we use three or four lights? And what separation between lights would you recommend.
    Thanks

    1. Hey Rob, You’d want to go the smaller liner, so the 1500 one. You always want the light to step in from the edges of the benchtop. You never want it to run the full width.

  6. Many many thanks for sharing the tips for choosing the right pendant lights for over our kitchen. The kitchen’s design shown in the pictures is very attractive and beautiful too.

  7. Hi Chris, we have an L shaped bench with breakfast bar that is 3.1m long x 900mm wide.
We wish to install a 2.1m long pendant. It will be placed centred, length wise to the bench 3.1m bench, but I’d like to know if it the bar pendant should also sit in the centre of the bench width wise (at 450mm), OR more towards the breakfast bar? Would love your thoughts on this!

  8. Thank you needed this info as we are building. I have decided no pendants over our island bench as the ceiling has been lowered to 2.7m over the kitchen area, however the remainder of the room (the dining and family room) has a 5.8m void. I’m wanting to place a pendant/s over the dining table. Overall room size is 5m x 11m. I have purchased 2 very large pendants however unsure if I should use both or just one over the dining table? Any advice appreciated. Sue
