There’s a lot that happens behind-the-scenes when we create your dream interior.
We handle every aspect from start to finish, so you don’t have to.

We do the work, you enjoy the fun part. 
We’ll drive the entire process so you don’t have to do any of this annoying stuff:

  • Spend hours researching furniture and decor options. 
  • Try to figure out what style you like – will it actually work in your space?
  • Trying to blend new items with the furniture you want to keep so everything looks good together.
  • Contact dozens of suppliers and chase down information.
  • Work out which suppliers have local showrooms or where you can see and test pieces in person.
  • Measure rooms, draw floor plans and cross your fingers that everything will fit once it’s delivered.
  • Build a delivery timeline and coordinate when everything needs to arrive to your home.
  • Find and manage a trusted team for painting, window treatments, joinery design, electrical work and more.
  • Make separate payments to every supplier involved in your project and process any returns/exhanges.
  • Stand in front of the furniture once it’s delivered wondering, “What on earth am I supposed to style on top of this?”


Our Process Makes the Pain Go Away

We follow a proven process with our Melbourne design clients to make the entire journey a stress-free experience.

We’ll have a quick chat about your home, what you’re hoping to achieve, what’s currently not working and the level of help you’re looking for.

We’ll also talk about your budget, so we can make sure your expectations and the project are aligned — and that we’re the right people to help.

We come to you for a focused, practical consultation designed around your biggest questions and challenges.

We can talk through layouts, furniture, colour, window treatments, flow, room functionality and anything else that’s currently driving you a little mad.

If your home isn’t built yet or you haven’t purchased the property, we can do this at your current residence using your floor plan to do a virtual walk-through.

You’ll leave with clarity. We’ll leave with a much better understanding of your home and what it could become.

If we’re a good fit for a full project, we’ll put together a detailed proposal outlining the scope, design fees and anticipated furnishing and decorating costs.

Once you’re on board, the fun really begins.

We develop a comprehensive design concept for your home, including 2D layouts, 3D perspectives where required, mood boards for each room, furniture and decor selections, and colour and texture palettes.

Everything has a reason for being there — and everything is considered in relation to the bigger picture. This is presented to you in-home with your feedback collected.

If needed, we coordinate trusted trades and specialists for elements such as painting, joinery, window treatments and electrical work.

We’ll also take you to our supplier showrooms to road test products – where seeing, sitting on and experiencing something in person can make all the difference in confirming it’s the right piece for you.

You’ll receive a detailed schedule of selections and costs for approval before we move into purchasing.

We coordinate the purchasing process on your behalf, with options for delivery, storage and installation depending on what your project needs.

Then comes the best part: delivering it all, then styling your home at the end so you can see everything come together – read to live in and love.

Hi, I’m Chris

I’ll be your designer throughout – from the first phone call to final cushion placement. 

The TLC team and I have transformed homes for over 13 years, and my mission has always been the same: making great design easy – no matter your home size or suburb. 

I’m down-to-earth and unpretentious about interiors too. I don’t believe your home needs to be precious, overly-styled or designed to impress people you don’t know.

We want it designed to impress you! 

Along the way, I’ve worked as a designer on the Channel 10 reboot of Changing Rooms, written for realestate.com.au, and appeared on Sunrise, The Morning Show, and in Inside Out magazine. 

Credentials aside, the thing that matters most to me is how good design makes you feel when you actually live with it.

Are We a Good Fit?

Our Melbourne interior design service is for homeowners who want the home without the hassle. They’d rather have an expert take care of the details than spend their nights researching furniture, chasing suppliers and shopping themselves.

You’re probably a good fit if:

  • You don’t want to be heavily involved in the minutia of the process. You want an expert to drive the decisions.
  • You’re ready to work on multiple rooms or your whole home.
  • You value good design and are prepared to invest in getting it right. We mix price points, sure, but we’re not budget.
  • You’re open to the process and trust us to guide you through the decisions. Trust is paramount when we work with clients.
  • You’re comfortable discussing the budget you wish to invest in the project. More on that below.

THE IMPORTANT PART

Can We Talk Budget?

We understand that every home and project is different, but it’s important we know what you’re comfortable investing.

Conversations around budget shouldn’t be awkward.

It’s OK not to know an exact figure (we can guide you) but when clients are cagey about what they have to invest it can be problematic in a few ways:

If there is ‘no budget’, we could design an entire scheme you don’t have the spend for, wasting your time and money putting a concept together that will never be realised.

Conversely, if we assume you don’t have a decent investment, we might deliver ideas that are more entry-level or don’t allow for customisation or bespoke solutions. This isn’t ideal either.

We’ll discuss budget during our initial call so neither party is going into the process blind. We’re very transparent on all fronts, and this includes investment.

Melbourne is where we’re based and where most of our projects take place.

We do occasionally work further afield depending on the project, so if you’re outside Melbourne, get in touch and we can have a conversation about what you need.

It depends on the size and complexity of your project, what needs to be changed and the availability of the pieces you’re selecting.

A project involving several rooms, custom joinery, trades and multiple furniture orders naturally takes longer than a straightforward decorating project.

We’ll give you a realistic timeline once we understand your project, and we’ll keep you updated as it progresses.

We work with a broad range of furniture, lighting, decor and design suppliers — from established brands and specialist showrooms to more accessible sources and interesting finds.

Where we shop depends entirely on what your home needs.

The goal isn’t to fill your house with products from a particular list of stores. It’s to find the right piecesto create the finished space.

Absolutely.

We don’t believe starting from scratch is always the answer. If you have pieces you love, we’ll look at how they can work within the new design.

Sometimes they become part of the finished scheme. Sometimes we’ll suggest moving them elsewhere. And occasionally, we’ll be honest when something has simply reached the end of its useful life.

The goal is a home that feels like you, not a showroom full of things you just bought (or old pieces that are holding you back).

Earlier than you think.

Getting us involved before your home is finished — and ideally while important decisions are still being made — can help us think about the bigger picture from the beginning.

If your home isn’t built yet, we can also work virtually during the early stages.

We have established relationships with a wide range of furniture, lighting and decor suppliers, and where trade pricing is available to us, we use those relationships as part of the purchasing process.

We’ll explain how purchasing and pricing works for your particular project during the proposal stage.

No — and that’s intentional.

We don’t believe every client should end up with the same “Chris look”.

Our job is to understand your home, your personality, how you live and what you respond to, then translate that into a cohesive design.

We can work with a range of styles, from understated and relaxed to colourful, bold and full of personality.
