The Interior Design Process Explained

How it Works…

Step 1: In-Home Consultation

A 90-minute session, in your home, to discuss your design needs.
We’ll look through TLC’s image library on the day to find your dream style.
Examination of your rooms to discuss the best design solutions and layouts.
A wish list of products needed to resolve the rooms will be made on the day.
Post-consultation, a proposal is sent with all estimated costs and next steps.

Step 2: Design Concept

We’ll get to work on carving out our best design ideas for each room.
The concept is a PDF document we’ll come back and present to you.
Includes inspiration imagery, mood boards of rooms, plus to-scale layouts.
Concept contains all of the real-world products we plan to purchase for you.
We’ll note down all of your feedback on the day, what you do and don’t like.

Step 3: Product Specification

With your feedback front-of-mind, we produce your product spec sheet.
Spec sheet contains every product we plan to purchase for you.
The list inlcudes images of products, dimensions and pricing.
You review and approve the items for purchase, and we go ahead and order.
You pay us, we pay our suppliers, then organise deliveries to your home.

Step 4: Install & Styling

Once all the furniture arrives, we’ll come to your home to lay it out properly.
We’ll also do a style shop for decorative items (candles, plants, vases etc).
We’ll style everything in your home to ensure it looks just right.
You enjoy daily bliss in your newly-designed space.

Some interior designers shy away from talking charges. Not us. We’re an open book, so there are no surprises.

Discovery Call

FREE

This is the 20-minute initial call with our director Chris to discuss your project. Following the call we’ll advise you if moving to an in-home consult is recommended.

In-Home Consult

$396

This is a 90-minute session in your home to discover your needs, offer design advice, conduct a style analysis using our image library, and price the project up for you.

Hourly Design Fee

$198

The design fee for your project is estimated after your in-home consultation based on the total amount of hours we feel we’ll need to execute the home makeover.

Chris Carroll

Chris is a qualified designer with over 12 years experience in the world of interiors. He and the TLC team service all pockets of Melbourne and its surrounds.

You’ll find no pretence when working with Chris. Transparent and down-to-earth, he and the team make the interior design journey fun and stress-free for clients.

Chris also writes the TLC blog and is a presenter, having hosted video content for brand partners as well as presenting on shows like Sunrise, The Morning Show, Changing Rooms and more.

It varies by the complexity of your project. A basic furnish of one room can be quicker that a redesign of an entire home where trades are involved. We give more detail on timeframes in this blog post though if you’d like to know more.

It’s impossible to estimate our design hours or how much you’ll spend on products until we understand how large your home is and what we might do to it. We estimate all fees as early in the process as possible so you can make an informed decision as to whether you wish to work with us.

Absolutely. When we visit for your in-home consult, we’ll figure out what your dream interior design style is and we can then determine if any of the pieces you want to keep work with that dream style. If we can keep some items, we do.

It depends on the size of the room, amount of products we’re bringing in, the look you’re after, and how many additional layers we’re introducing. This blog article gives you more detail on furnishing a single room.

We absolutely do! The amount of discount off the recommended retail price varies depending on the supplier we purchase through. You’ll see how much you’re saving off RRP when we deliver your product specification sheet to you.

We use a mix brands for the one project. Once we set a budget for your makeover, it (along with the interior design style we’re going for) helps us determine the best brands to use. We are never wedded to one supplier.

We do! Depending on the extent of the renovation, we collaborate with a range of professionals to achieve the best outcome for your home.
