  1. Hi,
We’re in the process of building our dream home and are in the process of selecting pendants for our island.
Our island is 3m long, so we were thinking of going with x2 60cm lights ( https://www.templeandwebster.com.au/Bajecny-Metal-Pendant-Light-ORLO-PE-TELX1179.html?refid=GPAAU447-TELX1179_200349693_200349696&PiID%5B%5D=200349693&PiID%5B%5D=200349696#reviews).
My dilemma lies in that we have 3 skylights (evenly spaced above the island), so I would like to know whether the above pendant lights plus the skylights would look too “busy”. Having said that, I have tried to select subtle lighting as I would like the skylights to remain the main feature during the day.
    Thank you kindly,
    Naz

  3. Hi Chris, I have a very large island 2800 long ,love it I also have a racked ceiling , Im finding it very hard to find nice pendant light that would suit , I love and the style I’m looking is crome pendants because i have a hamptons style home. I’m finding a pendant to suit ,can you please help me .

Your post was very informative about heights and size of pendant lights, but could you tell me from front to back of the island? Where is the light should be placed? Should they be placed more in the middle of the island or should they be placed more over the seating side or more on the prep side. There is enough light in the kitchen for anyone eating, or anyone preparing things. My lights are mostly for decorative reasons.
I’m kind of thinking just from the pictures I could see that most of them are placed in the middle of the island but I just want to be sure before I have them installed.

  5. Hi Chris,
Our island is 3130mm long and we are thinking of using 4 surface mounted downlights as functional pendants above the island. The pendants are 82mm wide and I am struggling with whether this is enough lights for over the bench and how I should space them? Please help

  6. Hi Chris.
We have a 2600mm L x 1000mm W x 943mm H bench. Bulkhead ceiling is 28c (2400 from floor). My cabinets are in Bottenga Oak. I have gone for the small Pangolini scale dome pendants in Antique Brass (link attached). My worry is that the height/depth is too big, 400mm and on a low ceiling. I prefer to have 2 pendants and not to be close to the ceiling.
What is your advice. Thank you in advance.

  7. Hi, We have a 3mx1.2m island.. Our kitchen is all white with stone and brass tap. I want to cluster lights on one end. I have purchased a cluster of 3 round lights with the full width of the cluster being 50cm, each light in the cluster is at different height. And the lowest light in the cluster will sit at 65cm from ceiling…. I am worried it will look too small. Are you able to assist please?

  8. Hi Chris,

Our kitchen island is 2650mm, we have found a linear pendant that’s 1800mm, this means we are left with 42ish cm’s on either side of the island. Is that light too small for this size island or would be fine?

  9. Hi Chris,

We have a 2380mm long x 1000mm wide kitchen benchtop. We are thinking of getting a brass linear pendant. I did not know the many sizes available, Do you think we should get the 1500mm, 1800mm or 2200mm pendant? Thanks in advance

    1. Hey Kimberly. It depends how much of a feature you want to make the pendant and how dominant in the space you want it to be. The 2220mm is definitely too large though. So it’s either the 1500 or the 1800. It’s personally go for the 1500mm which gives you 44cm either side of the pendant to the end of the bench.

  10. We have a 2.1m long kitchen island. Do you think these lights would be too small?
