  1. Totally agree w the layout issues.
As Butler Pantry’s have become additional fully functional kitchens, where is the door to the outside the caterers will need to carry provisions to & from their refrigerated transport – as required by law?
Normally the BP holds all crockery and glassware, making the cupboards in the Kitchen redundant. BPs must be able to accommodate up to 8 people, not just 1 “butler”. Some 1 preps & trays up, 2 load the trays, 2-3 circulate the food to guests, 2-3 are carrying bottles to top up guest glasses, and 1 to clear debris & washes up. 60 guests can use 200-300 glasses.
The BPs do not make sense by being gallies.

    1. is Rachel & Ryan – except their lights. I’d remove the high cupboards and put art on walls.
Or add glassware cupboards under the existing tall cupboards, and lower the wooden shelves.
    2. Jenny & Dylan – the colour may be off-putting. Is there glass or Perspex behind the gold screens on the drawers, otherwise dirt will enter and make washing necessary before using anything inside those drawers.
    3. Sarah-Jane & Tom – the extra Hot Tap to fill urns should be in BP. I still like those lights!
    4. Sharon & Ankur – 6 chairs seems overkill. Pink is weird. That Island is a whole country – far too large, far too big to get around if you want something on the other side! Not practical. The size divides and blocks.
    5. Omar & Oz. – a concrete garage, just missing car parts and hoist. Extremely disappointing execution. Not a fan of polished concrete – anything dropped smashes, the colour is brutalist, not country, the concrete bench belongs in the shed with the livestock.

Surely the BP requires a concealed door w corridor as guests will be all over the gigantic kitchen space. I like Sarah-Janes light pendants, but not much else.
Why rough textured woven stools to snag delicate Silk, Satin, Chiffon garments? No thank you!
Why are stove tops/ovens placed so closely to the end of the separate Islands? There is not much room to open the oven doors, remove hot trays or roasts, and back up. They seem very tight areas.

  2. Dylan and Jenny had the best kitchen. I think the judges are to focused on the styling, not the layout and practical side of things. Onya Dylan and Jenny love it.

  3. I totally agree. But I don’t believe Dylan and Jenny’s was necessarily the best. Not only was the fridge a concussion problem, as you say, but also a long way from any bench.
I can’t imagine anyone using the butlers pantries for their intended purpose, just as well the kitchens are big enough

  4. I liked all the kitchens but was confused why the Architect put the Butler’s Kitchens so far away from the main kitchen.
Shaynna call the “meat fridge” a charcuterie fridge. I had never heard of it so I googled it. AKA a Steak Locker.
Neale called is a Cheesery. Either way very posh for the country.

  5. I agree about the distance to the buttlers that was doing my head in as well. I think the mirror was in the buttlers taken off the stand and attached to the wall…you can reapply your lippy if you are having a sneaky snack! I must say I felt sorry for Rachel this week and her styling reflected her bad week but not a fan of the lights. My vote for 1st was Tom and SJ. She is so confident, they know how to play the game.

  6. I totally agree, I was really surprised that there was no focus on the layout, from the working triangle and the butler’s pantry, had me scratching my head. I agree with all your observations actually as they were exactly mine

  7. Definately Dylan & Jenny’s Kitchen by far stood out as the winner!! And then l liked.Ryan and Rachel’s…The others really weren.t anything l would want in my home!

  8. Has anyone thought about these houses being off the grid? The amount of power, gas and water they are going to require will be enormous. Air conditioning, underfloor heating, multiple fridges and ovens, dual showers, swimming pools etc won’t be useable when someone actually lives there and has to have gas and water delivered every other day and relying on the sun to power these houses is ridiculous.

  9. I totally agree! Jenny and Dylan ticked all the boxes! And it was country to a T. They are such a beautiful couple. I was soooo disappointed they didn’t win…

  10. The way I have always read the pricing is literally cash. So does not include any vouchers used (ie. Freedom kitchen’s, beacon lighting etc) it’s not really any useful information from a viewers perspective looking for renovating costs, but more of a comparison with the other contestants.
Love reading your views every week! I’m trying to see where the judges are coming from, trying to get the contestants to make something really unique and design forward, but I do think that Rachel and Ryan’s house will do the best come auction as it will appeal to so many 🙂
