  1. I think the problem is, the contestant’s main goal is to impress the judges and make it photograph well for their real estate brochures. If they were designing this for themselves to live in, they would spend time thinking about how it would function.
What do they like to cook? What kind of entertaining do they do? How many people live there?
They’re not thinking about cooking zones, preparation zones, cleaning zones, etc. Their fridges and pantries are much too far away and a person would be walking all over the place to get things out and then put them away again.
They’ve just tried to throw in as much “wow” as they can, into the space available. The result is a bit of a mess and a wasted opportunity, in my opinion.

  2. Oz and Oman’s kitchen YUK horrible cold no sole. I think they have just lowered the buying pool.
Dylan and Jenny s kitchen should have won it felt right and looked right. I have a question that l am sure is on every body s lips where was Sharon and Ankurs Mirror they had to have in their kitchen ????

    1. Julie i saw the mirror on the wall, however i didnt see the stand anywhere!!!
I loved SJ and Tom’s Kitchen good win, however i thought butler’s pantry was a off set to the kitchen not a hop skip and a jump away (maybe this is the morden way?) House 1,2 and 4 so far is wear i would like to live well done to them

  3. So glad you mentioned the positioning of the butlers pantries and the fridges. I thought i was going mad. And it is ridiculous that none of this was mentioned by the judges. None of it makes any sense to me anymore and it has put me off the show entirely.

  4. I thought the money spent was on trades and cash items but didn’t include the Freedom ‘dollars’ – but if you are right, then there is no way us mere mortals to get a kitchen for that price.

  5. I think your right it’s a country homestead not tooruk so the green one did it for me and as for the $250,000 in Oz and Omar’s what a waste all black kitchen no way a kitchen should be cool not dark and dingy

  6. Living in a rural setting, I can assure you that many rural dwellers love modern and industrial design! The writer, and many house magazines need to open their eyes, and shift their focus from Sydney and Melbourne! Send a journo and photographer on a road trip (and not just to trendy regional settings) and see the many innovative new builds in the rest of our beautiful land. I’m glad The Block are giving it a go, but the stereotyping of ‘country’ is nauseating!

  7. I like the look of Rachel and Ryan’s kitchen. It has a modern look with a country hint.
Growing up in the Country myself not many country people want a real country look a modernized version is something I would look for.
I do agree the butlers kitchen is not in a good position but once the house is finished it should flow better.

    1. So glad others noticed the “cut lunch & waterbag” needed to get to the butlers pantry, quite ridiculous. Likewise the fridge positioning in several of the homes. Judges keep saying such a wonderful entertaining space but surely all of these homes need to be a functioning family space.
Dylan & Jenny topped the lot this week.

  8. Agree on Dylan and Jenny, should have v e won kitchen weeks. I would have putthe b oys last. There kitchenware was cold and ug ly.
