  1. I’m inclined to agree with most comments, I hate wooden ceiling and buyers will think of the maintenance of same , also don’t like Sharon’s styling and don’t see it as important when judging .The prop’s don’t come with the house normally. I like Sarah Jane and Tom but not for first place kitchen Dylan and Jenny did a better job. The judges are not the most well informed as they like to think and they are far too harsh on some critics in my opinion.

  2. I totally agree that Dylan and Jenny should have won the kitchen. I feel like the judges have Tom and Sarah-Jane as their favourites and that is skewing their opinions.
I absolutely hated the tartan room and really couldn’t understand why the judges thought it was the best room when others were much better.
I also think that house 2 are being very harshly judged and that the judges seem to have it in for them.

  3. Jen and Dyllan by far the best looking kitchen…calm and light. However, the sink too far from stove as is fridge. To mine, the island bench should’ve been across the kitchen. Unless kitchen for show, as you said, pantry too far. I’d do all my cooking in b/pantry but not sure if there was a fridge in there. Also, think passage in b/pantry a bit narrow so if you have a door/ drawer open in there, you may have to stand to side ofeither drawer or cupboard you’ve open so could hurt yourself if you’re lifting something big with a bit of weight. They got my vote though

  4. Also, I hate sinks & stoves on islands. Sink under the window is a winner for me. We splash & get messy. Islands are for serving, prep & eating imo. Nice, tidy, big space

  5. My favourite kitchen was actually both Rachael and Ryan and Dylan and Jenny, what I don’t understand is why styling the rooms is so necessary other than for TV viewing as the contestants could spend more time finishing the rooms to a much higher standard for the millions of dollars they will be asking, just my opinion I guess, I see it as a total waste of money and time.
Didn’t like the boys kitchen at all, so very cold and who needs all those unnecessary extra appliances, we own a 1930’s Country home on 3acres and we definitely do not have Dinner Parties every week or weekend. We have a beautiful kitchen and scullery which is probably a quarter of the size of these kitchens and am forever cleaning ours, the kitchens are ridiculously large for a normal sized Family.

  6. Jenny & Dylan’s all the way! Beautiful colour, brass elements, lights, styling etc. Tom & Sarah Jane 2nd – just personal taste (styling – I hated their tartan room!). Yes, all but Sharon’s kitchen has the butler’s pantry in the wrong spot but I hated their kitchen. Rachel just needs to put some gorgeous timber stools & a barn door up + better styling & its fine, so 3rd.Love the boys but their kitchen comes 4th imo. Too modern, cold. Again hated the stools. Timber ones would have been great to warm up the space & tie in with the ceiling. The judges drive me crazy. They complained about the height of Rachel’s shelves yet did they see the glasses on the boys drink cabinet?! News flash, if you’re less than 6 ft tall you always need a stool or ladder for the upper cabinets/shelves!

  7. What happened to the golden triangle of workspace Fridge, stove and sink?

You’re definitely sure to get your steps up when cooking in these kitchens.
Maybe if you’re paying a kings ransom’s for these houses you don’t cook. You’ve got a chef in the butler’s pantry doing the cooking or maybe it’s delivery and you’ll just be artfully placing the food on dishes like a MasterChef contestant.
And why have top cabinets if you can’t reach anything.

  8. I’ve read a couple of these now and I have to say, well done.

I agree and find frustrating that glaring issues such as no window treatments or “zero caulking that can be fixed in post” are overlooked whereas a misplaced leather apron in a butler’s pantry is deemed a cardinal, unforgiveable sin. Meanwhile the fact that the pantry itself is in an adjacent suburb attracts no comment.

If I may be so bold, one suggestion? If you could at the start of each section for respective couples re-state what position you rated them at? The heading may read “Sharon and Ankur Came Fourth” but then I have to scroll all the way to the top to remind myself where you had them. I think commencing their respective sections with a reminder of where you ranked them would be good.

  9. Apart from 1 design the islands are facing the wrong way . When taking out oven trays you need the broadside of the island to place the food on and to serve from the stove.
You shouldn’t have to walk around the island carrying hot food.

  10. House 1 narrowly won over house 4 House 2 was judged unnecessarily harshly It was a little underwhelming but easily fixed House3 was OK House 5 feels very oppressive I hate the wood ceiling and the darkness of the room The best thing in the room is the appliances, which the boys won. Really who needs such expensive appliances
