  1. Sarah Jane was definitely a 1st winner.
Her ability to colour match, execute and tie everything in together is amazing for someone who has not had this as a career or study.

The second house definitely Dylan and Jenny .. there kitchen had an incredible warm heritage farm feel to it which is what buyers are going to be looking for. This could of tied in first with Sarah Jane.

I believe Omar and oz should of come second also. There ability to creat a warm genuinely luxurious space in the kitchen was done very well. They may have had a lot of appliances however they still created a space where it didn’t look to technical.

Ankur and Sharon definitely third. They still need a lot of work on creating a space with the perfect colours and decor but they did a wonderful job.

    Rach and Ryan definitely last.
I do believe thee overall finish will be lovely but there styling is very very stripped back and boring in every room including the kitchen.

  2. I was surprised that the judges could pick a flaw with everyone’s kitchen except Sarah-Jane’s. How impractical and potentially dangerous is the pot tap with what appears to be a gas stove. While pots are boiling at the rear, how are you going to access the pot tap to fill up other pots at the front.
Also what about kids, when the kitchen sink is full, will think “it’s easier and novel to go to the stove tap”. Parents can’t have their eyes on them all the time. Not a smart move, but apparently 10/10 from the judges – a perfect score for something so glaringly imperfect.

I really liked Dylan & Jenny’s kitchen the most – felt they should have won.

  3. Tom and Sarah Jane
Love love thier home and what they have done so far. They are all good but Tom and Sarah Jane just amazing they should do it as a full time job . Love all the copper ect the fridge .
I could live in it no worries. Just love the block.

  4. Love your assessment of the kitchens. Having been in the design field in past years I was surprised when I saw the house plans that the butler pantries were not accessible directly from the kitchens and was waiting to see if the designs were going to be changed. When they weren’t, I was keen to see what was said during the judging and therefore could not believe that none of the judges made any comments about it. It makes me wonder whether they are more concerned about what the end result looks like rather than the functionablity.

  5. I live in the country, and let’s just say, not everyone wants a country kitchen, mines not and we built. The boys was my favourite with Dylan and Jenny’s second.

  6. Tom and Sarah’s kitchen is beautiful but it is so American from all the TV renovation shows like the pot tap at the stove the cupboards the legs at the end of the island every thing. I agree you definitely need some type of window covering and Ithe butlers pantry should be an extension of the kitchen

  7. Feel like Sharon and Ankur should have done bulk heads – it will be difficult to keep clean with the stove being in the middle and I’m really not a fan of a lot of their choices which seems to be a bit of a mish mash. I agree the boys’ kitchen is too modern and doesn’t link with the bathrooms.

I would have liked to see a timber shelf, or even just a continuation of the shelves in Dylan and Jenny’s on the other side of the window instead of the skull – it might have helped balance the lines with the kitchen island jutting out and provide slightly more storage – I think theirs was the best kitchen.
Don’t love the lights or the cupboard profile Rachel and Ryan used. I agree with the poster above about sinks under windows and not in islands and perhaps they could have linked the kitchen more to their bathroom if the sink was moved and they used a similar slab of wood for the island bench. I don’t know if it would be too much with the beams, but I feel like having the beams and then the shelves gives it definition but somehow not enough with all of the white.

    1. I spend a lot of time in my butler’s pantry and would go crazy having to walk too far all the time carrying my Tupperware! I could not believe this either.

I have been expecting to see Joanna Gaines or Studio McGee vibes. It is obvious Sarah Jane is an excellent student of styling like many of us die-hards.

Is it just me or have you noticed that when a contestant is an interior decorator by profession, Shaynna marks them harder?

  8. I thought Dylan and Jenny had the best kitchen. With Rachel and Ryan second. I was told you should never mix copper and brass yet Tom and Sarah Jane did in their kitchen and nothing was said.
