  1. Help! I am in Tucson,
I am in a 1959 ranch style home, open style combination space; living room/family room with an oversized sliding door( high traffic ) two large inside outside dogs, and a dirt yard. If you look online youโ€™ll have a better visual.
Whilst Iโ€™m trying to resolve with gravel and put $ into the yard etc I am overwhelmed by the dust bowl that is my house!

Iโ€™ve had a wool rug prior and it got buggy!
Not to mention the moisture it wicks and the smell eventuallyโ€ฆ

Iโ€™m ready to replace my furniture and carpet
After my oldest dog passes and but wanted to do a rug or two prior.

Iโ€™m looking for two rugs, one of indoor material yet semi formal for the family room area (as it will be seen from main entrance) has fireplace, im aiming for tidy and cozy
And a runner perhaps in front of slider/lounge area that transitions to heavy trafficked, the slider is how my dogs (dogo Argentine breed and wired hair pointer come in and out) and the room is a family entertainment room of sorts where my family parks our butts for most of the evenings. The room gets intense desert sun when not blacked out.
Did I mention our three year old a husband who has a metal shop that doesnโ€™t always take off his shoes?
What are your suggestions please!? Iโ€™d be willing to spend more if I new the rug will last through a soon to be incontinent dog ๐Ÿ™ and we plan on her passing here at home. Iโ€™ve read almost all of your articles and theyโ€™ve been valuable and informative. Iโ€™d like a final insight. I want least expensive yet durable, Iโ€™d like durable yet a mature and tied together look. I want the slider and the windows to be main attractions not furniture/floors.

  2. I’m so frustrated! Your ideas are great but I can’t tell what I need v.s what I have and where to put it. Please help Chris!

    1. Hey Janet, you might need to get a designer in to give you a hand. I don’t offer one-off or one room services but other designers should be able to help.

  3. How do you know what size rug to purchase for your lounge? If your lounge is 3m long and has a chaise at one end do you need all of the lounge to sit on the rug or one to sit in front of the lounge?
And should you still have a grey rug with a grey lounge?

    1. Hi Jane, I always like the rug a little on the lounge, and a little wider. I’d go for some contrast usually, at least in pattern so it’s not all the one colour.
