I moved house recently and the bedroom was the first space on the agenda to receive a makeover. True to form, I’ve previously spent my money decorating the rooms most people are going to see, like the living room or kitchen. But it was time for the boudoir to get some attention. Read on for before and after shots, where to nab the products and get some style tips to boot!
Before: The bedroom above is from my old home in Kensington and all the furniture came with me to the new place. The bed was an oldie we’d had for years, and my side table was a roadside find I had revamped (click here to read about that). My partner had a chair as a bedside table and the space – apart from some nice Adairs bedding – was really, really neglected (shame on me). Once we hit the new pad in St Peters, all that came to an end, as you’ll see below in this bedroom makeover…
Above and Below: My side of the bed features an Orlieu ‘Dreamer’ pillow slip, which sums me up to a tee. A lamp I scored for a steal at Target sits beside some colourful interior books on my bedside. The pops of colour in the books provide nice contrast to the rustic boxes I’ve used as bedside tables. I found two in a second-hand store up the road and they really balance out the femininity of the glorious Eden Bed from Incy Interiors – which I’d been coveting for months and finally purchased.
Above and Below: The AURA Home quilt cover provides a graphic punch without being too visually overbearing. Gavin’s side of the bed features art by Pete Cromer and stunning candelabras and scented candles from Target. The blue pillow cases and the European pillows also came from Target, which I’ve come to discover is the best place for affordable bedding.
Layering pillows in blue tones like this brings a bit of masculinity to the scene and balances out the metallic in the bed frame. The black fitted sheet adds some luxe to the equation too – because white is just too predictable!
I also scored an Ergoflex memory foam mattress, which I’ll be telling you more about in an upcoming post because it needs an entire feature to itself!
Style Concept: The idea for the bedroom makeover was to make it feel colourful, visually interesting but quite plush and comfy, too. I always like a space to feel lived-in and I wanted it to be representative of my love of colour and whimsy. It was also crucial that it didn’t feel too ‘beige’ or ‘grown-up’ (snooze!).
As mentioned earlier, the bed was on my must-have list for ages, but admittedly it’s quite shiny and not very masculine. Pairing it with graphic bedding and rustic, industrial side tables brought balance to the space and colourful art completed the look. Lastly, the grey cushion cover is a felt fantasy if I ever saw one – and a few treasured knick-knacks were scattered about to make it feel like home!
Target:
Two Cotton Cover European Pillows, Two Grandeur European Pillow Cases in Navy, Two Standard Pillow Cases in Blue, Grandeur Fitted Sheet in Black, Brooklyn Pillar Stand in Blue, Brooklyn Pillar Stand in Tomato, Two Scented Candles
AURA Home:
Crosses quilt cover in Black – Queen, Picot Cushion in Marine
Eden Bed from Incy Interiors, Art by Pete Cromer, Lover and Dreamer Pillow Cases and ‘Love You More’ Print from Kreo Home, Grey Cushion from +One and Memory Foam Mattress from Ergoflex.
I’d love to get your thoughts on my bedroom makeover in the comments below!

Thanks Cathy 🙂
Your room looks great, I love the linen and the cheeky pillow cases 🙂
Thankyou! It’s definitely feeling more personal and “me” now.
Nice! I also liked the dost before, haha. I love the nightstands, though, very original, simple and fun idea! Like the decorating candle stalls too. My room is style in more like Nordic Interior Design. I tried to keep it simple as you did, but I added some rustic elements to contrast with the modern. I also use sheep wrap as a additional blanket, it so snug and comfortable! Gives me the home-like feeling my room needed. Good job with the refurbishment!
Thanks Laurie! The bedside tables are some of the favourite pieces I’ve ever purchased. I love their originality. Even if you have tea chests, no two are the same.
Love it Chris, you’ve done a fantastic job.
Thanks Yvette. There are a few more pieces I need to find for the walls but I’m really happy with how it has come together.
Love the copper look bed. And the Aura linen. I agree re Target … Great sheets and basics. Your bedroom looks fantastic.
What a fab makeover! LOVE the copper bed frame, the tea chest bedsides, the Lover/Dreamer cases – oh my – really love it all…I definitely need those Kreo cases ;)!
Thanks Tina! The bed is perfect. When it arrived I didn’t expect it to be as tall as it was – compared to my older, shorter bed – but it has really lifted the room.
Ohhhhh gosh I am in love with those Lover/Dreamer pillow cases & the Love You More print and have already opened the Kreo Home website in a new tab to start drooling. Loving the balance and the way you’ve brought more masculine elements in with such a stunning bed.
Thanks Chealsea! Kreo has some great stuff and have been a really amazing supporter of the blog. I’d recommend them to anyone looking for intersting pieces.
