UPDATE: Check out Reno Rumble kitchen reveals and hear from the home owner’s!
Last weekend, while watching The Block, I saw the advert for Channel Nine’s new show, Reno Rumble. My first thought was, oh God no; surely the world doesn’t need more of this reality TV format. My second thought, after seeing that Nine had convinced old House Rules contestants to take part in the show was, well… that seems a bit unsavoury.
The feud between these two networks has been ongoing for years, and Nine’s securing of former Seven talent left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, truth be told. Not that this doesn’t happen between networks all the time, of course.
That said, I shall keep an open mind about Reno Rumble, because who knows how this show will pan out. For those of you eager to find out more about it, here’s what the official press release, that came out today from Nine, has to say about it.
The Concept
Each week, contestants will travel across Australia to the home’s of everyday Aussies, renovating and making over not one, but two houses that sit side-by-side. This is where the whole House Rules vs The Block will come into play. Teams will compete to collect a $100,000 winner’s cheque (half going to the winning couple and the other half to the charity of their choice).
The renovated homes will belong to everyday couples who are in dire need of some transformative help. Each home will be judged by interior design experts, who have been briefed by the home owners on the style they want for their reno.
There’s no word yet on who these interior design experts are. Channel Nine, where was my phone call? I don’t imagine it’ll be Neale, Shaynna and Darren, or the press release would have mentioned them. Only time will tell.
The Teams
So, former Block contestants competing are: Josh and Jenna (2011), Kyal and Kara (2014), Michael and Carlene (2014) and Ayden and Jess (this year).
House Rules season one contestants include winners Carly and Leighton, runners-up Michelle and Steve, brothers Nick and Chris and newlyweds Jemma and Ben.
The show will be hosted by Scott Cam and is coming soon. No official date has been locked in as yet, but I imagine it’ll be right after The Block finishes. I’ll keep you posted!
>>> How do you feel about Reno Rumble? A good concept or a step too far? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. Are you exhausted by all this reno reality TV or can you see yourself getting hooked?

It would be good to see ‘newbie’ talented pairs going on the show instead of the same winners over and over again. Let others show their talents and win some prizes! I like getting to know the new contestants instead of rehashing the same. (I’ll still watch it anyway…..)
Can i register my house for the rumble my house is in need of some TLC how do u get on these shows.
How do u get your house on this Reno Rumble ,My house need a lot of work ,I don’t have a job & get no money form any sore & I use all of my saving to fix the house up so I could rent a room out to get some money to live ..& my kids wouldn’t be living in a house that falling down
I know I’ll end up watching it as I am a sucker for any renovation show but I feel it is all geared towards drama and ratings.. The element of design and styling has gone out the window a bit. Its nice to see real budgets and real people, as the Block renovations are certainly beyond the reach of the every day Australian. But that’s what I love about it, take that look and do it on a budget. Anyway will have to wait and see but I know I will be on the sidelines cheering and whinging all at the same time 🙂
Whoever writes the ad for Reno Rumble should be hung, shot and buried. Then exhumed, cremated and their ashes flushed down the toilet.
can they please come and my house please please..
I would love reno rumble to do my house please please please. Is that possible?
Yeah, I pretty much shouted at my TV the entire time that first ad was on. But.. I’ll still watch it, I’m a sucker like that.
PS. #teamblock
PPS. they should DEFINITELY ask you to judge!

I can’t wait! I’m preferring House Rules to the Block now, but I just wish House Rules would reveal their budgets. But a mash up of the two should be good!! Really looking forward to it!
I like the idea but worry Deanne Jolly may be back to judge. If that’s the case I just can’t do it.
I’m so excited for Reno rumble!! Some of my artwork will be in one of the houses
Do you know how can I apply???
My daughter and son-law are both hard of hearing They have 3 sons who are both deaf. Their house is really in need of a Reno make over. How much does it cost as they don’t have s lot of money
Hope to hear from you
Cheers Diane bellamy
Sounds like a good concept if they have a realistic budget and show how ordinary homeowners can afford to renovate by finding bargains, cheaper materials and recycling. Its no good having someone spending a ridiculous $20,000 on feature tiles for example. I like the idea of deserving people getting some help as long as it’s genuine. Good to know we’ll have some relief from ‘Block’ withdrawal symptoms.
Looking forward to it!
I definitely like the fact that it’s real people’s homes, Karen. It does make it feel a little more realistic. I just don’t know if I can take much more of the drama lol!
