Exploring the Best in Green Paint Colours for Sad White Walls

It’s all about gorgeous green paint colours today, decorating junkies, because as you well know by now, I’m on a mission to banish white walls.

That’s not to say that white isn’t delicious in some areas of your home, but we have to move beyond white across the entire home. I’m going to come right out and say it: an all-white home is a boring home. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. I am merely a vessel to deliver messages from the design gods, and they’ve just spoken: we must explore colour on your walls.

So Many Options, and All So Earthy

There are so many green paint colours available to you these days that the saddest part is running out of walls to splash them on. And so comes the issue of deciding which particular shade you’re going to work with.

The good news is this though: you can actually work in more than one tone. The images at the top of this post prove it. You can select your colour (in this post it’s obviously green), and then choose to paint all your walls in a number of tones from that colourway. It’s what we call a monochromatic colour scheme and it’s a really successful way to bring calm and tranquility to a space.

That’s not to say that feature walls are out. I did a bold green feature wall in a bedroom recently and painted the surrounding walls in Dulux Lexicon. So you can have that high contrast moment between green and white as I did, or you can go full monochrome and enjoy the journey your eye makes across a room as it dances from richer green tones through to more energetic or dusty ones.

I also love how well the green backdrop supports the indoor plant movement, which has absolutely exploded since the Botanical Trend landed a few years back. And as the images in this post also prove, green is such a complementary colour for yellow tones, not to mention earthy browns and rich charcoals.

The other thing these glorious Dulux green paint colours do is bring the outdoors in. It’s fair to say that us Aussies are obsessed with blurring the lines between indoors and out. And greens will really help you do it.

Nature is no longer an afterthought in the home; we want it to take centre stage. And that’s why this Cultivate palette from the Dulux Colour Forecast 2020 is so timely. It’s feeding that innate hunger we have to celebrate the earth and the positive effects greenery and the outdoors can have on our physical and mental health.

As you can see from the dreamy images here, the Cultivate palette is a serene layering of greens. From soft olive and pistachio, to lush forest green and beyond, there’s something for everyone eager to inject some calm into their interior.
