I’m yet to meet a person who isn’t absolutely obsessed with designer plant pots. You know, those gorgeous handcrafted pots that feature bold tones, pretty patterns and sublime shapes. I might not be the best green thumb in the world, but Lord knows I adore me a stylish pot to house my plants in. And I know you do too!
On that note, I gotta tell you about local brand Toast & Honey Studio, who are absolutely killing it on the plant pot front. With a range that’s both broad and beautiful, I thought it time I find out how the creative mastermind behind the brand, Maria Karandasios, comes up with these dazzling designs.
Designer Plant Pots from Toast & Honey Studio
Toast and Honey Studio was born in 2017, a few years after Maria decided to step away from her role in architecture to get a better work/life balance; spending more time with her family and focusing on her creative side.
Founding a studio that specialises in pots, artworks and plywood decor, Maria has created a cohesive collection in her online store that’s quite modernist in its design aesthetic.
It’s actually her architectural background that influences the brand’s designs, but Maria tells me that inspiration often also comes out of left field.
“Sometimes it’s simply looking at the shape of my pots and trying to come up with a design that would be complimentary to their curves,” she explains. “Recently my two-year old was painting a picture and the brush strokes she used inspired me to try something new!”
Maria’s Fave Designs from the Range
As I mentioned earlier in this post, the range in the Toast & Honey online store is so broad. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a design you’re not keen on, as there’s a colour palette to suit every home’s interior design scheme.
While I’m absolutely obsessed with the Sorbet and Venice pots in the collection, Maria tells me that she’s drawn to a few other designs due to their playful nature and inspiration source.
“I love the Geneva pot as I think it looks great in black. It was also inspired by one of my favourite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright,” Maria says. “I also really like the Cosmopolitan pot; there’s something quite playful about it”.
It Takes a Village to Raise a Business
With two girls, Erin and Maya, and her husband Jonathan by her side, Maria has created an amazing brand. It’s a business that not only reflects her individual passion for bold design, but it’s a product range the public can’t get enough of.
Any creative business can be tough to get off the ground, take it from me. But in many cases, it’s even tougher to keep it going. Thankfully, Maria has the support structure she needs to ensure the brand continues to flourish for years to come.
Jonathan not only works his own job outside of the biz, but takes care of tasks like web development and project planning for Toast & Honey. It’s this support that helps Maria focus on the creative side of the business. And as you can see from the images of her work in this post, it’s a pretty amazing undertaking.
Every Pot is Made to Order
When it comes to creating the designs for her designer plant pots, Maria explains that every single one is made-to-order. I love that each pot is unique and one-of-a-kind, don’t you?
“Once I have an idea for a design, I sketch it on paper,” Maria tells me. “There may be a little bit of editing and I finally test it on a pot. Usually I’ll have the exact colour to try in mind. And usually by this stage, I’m pretty happy with the design.
All pots are made to order. This means that I don’t actually have any already made in the studio, each one is specifically made for each customer”.
If the images in this post have your heart racing as much as mine is, you gotta jump over to the Toast & Honey website and shop away. There’s nothing better than supporting a local creative doing amazing things in business.
I have already ordered a stunning Sorbet pot in black which is on its way but I’d love a Manhattan Pot in neutral and black. It work love a dream in our kitchen area. Maria’s prints are gorgeous too!
They are all so fabulous I love the sorbet in dark blue – I love the more structured designs as well but this relaxed style just looks perfect to me – I can imagine it with a very structural plant like an Agave (of which I have 2 ready for repotting)
I absolutely love the SORBET range, they are something a little bold, yet subtle, the perfect blend for the interior with an amazing juxtaposition to their surroundings. Love them.
The Chicago Pot is absolutely stunning! It’s timeless and elegant yet so different to any other pot I’ve seen on the market. It’s on trend without being too “trendy” and will be a standout statement piece for many years. It’s hard to pick a favourite colour but I find it hard to go past pale blue and gold.
So very hard to choose but I love the Ivy range especially the charcoal colour. It really makes the green foliage pop from the plant and the little bit of gold brings an extra touch of class. You have a gifts d have created some beautiful designs which would look great in any home.
I love the Dip Tease pot with bronze stripe – partly because I love a good pun but also because it will tie in beautifully with the living room palette I’m currently designing for our new place. The couch is getting a new throw and cushions, so my rubber tree plant could have an updated pot at the same time.
They are all so lovely but I’m really drawn to Dip Tease Pot – Gold Stripe in Blue/Gold for it’s classic yet bold look. I’ve been growing a Fiddle Leaf for a few years in a basket which would love a revamped home. Teamed with this beautiful pot it would really create a feature in my home!
I love the Sorbet pot in black. I love the relaxed feel it has with the brush strokes and I also love the simplicity of black and white, it helps to really make the green of your plant pop!
So hard to choose as there are lots of gorgeous pots but really drawn to the Cosmopolitan in pink would look amazing in my living room. Thanks for the chance to win one of these
Apart from wanting them all (there’s never too many pots or plants is there?) the Sorbet in pink pot keeps catching my eye. Such a great colour combo, pink and white to make the plants foliage of green pop. Thanks for the chance and love these pots.
Such a beautiful range of pots! How to choose? The classic look of the Stripe Tease in black/grey would look so amazing on my front porch. I think the design is timeless. There’s currently nothing welcoming people to my house and we could really so do with some greenery in a stunning pot. Fingers crossed!
