I’m yet to meet a person who isn’t absolutely obsessed with designer plant pots. You know, those gorgeous handcrafted pots that feature bold tones, pretty patterns and sublime shapes. I might not be the best green thumb in the world, but Lord knows I adore me a stylish pot to house my plants in. And I know you do too!
On that note, I gotta tell you about local brand Toast & Honey Studio, who are absolutely killing it on the plant pot front. With a range that’s both broad and beautiful, I thought it time I find out how the creative mastermind behind the brand, Maria Karandasios, comes up with these dazzling designs.
Designer Plant Pots from Toast & Honey Studio
Toast and Honey Studio was born in 2017, a few years after Maria decided to step away from her role in architecture to get a better work/life balance; spending more time with her family and focusing on her creative side.
Founding a studio that specialises in pots, artworks and plywood decor, Maria has created a cohesive collection in her online store that’s quite modernist in its design aesthetic.
It’s actually her architectural background that influences the brand’s designs, but Maria tells me that inspiration often also comes out of left field.
“Sometimes it’s simply looking at the shape of my pots and trying to come up with a design that would be complimentary to their curves,” she explains. “Recently my two-year old was painting a picture and the brush strokes she used inspired me to try something new!”
Maria’s Fave Designs from the Range
As I mentioned earlier in this post, the range in the Toast & Honey online store is so broad. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a design you’re not keen on, as there’s a colour palette to suit every home’s interior design scheme.
While I’m absolutely obsessed with the Sorbet and Venice pots in the collection, Maria tells me that she’s drawn to a few other designs due to their playful nature and inspiration source.
“I love the Geneva pot as I think it looks great in black. It was also inspired by one of my favourite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright,” Maria says. “I also really like the Cosmopolitan pot; there’s something quite playful about it”.
It Takes a Village to Raise a Business
With two girls, Erin and Maya, and her husband Jonathan by her side, Maria has created an amazing brand. It’s a business that not only reflects her individual passion for bold design, but it’s a product range the public can’t get enough of.
Any creative business can be tough to get off the ground, take it from me. But in many cases, it’s even tougher to keep it going. Thankfully, Maria has the support structure she needs to ensure the brand continues to flourish for years to come.
Jonathan not only works his own job outside of the biz, but takes care of tasks like web development and project planning for Toast & Honey. It’s this support that helps Maria focus on the creative side of the business. And as you can see from the images of her work in this post, it’s a pretty amazing undertaking.
Every Pot is Made to Order
When it comes to creating the designs for her designer plant pots, Maria explains that every single one is made-to-order. I love that each pot is unique and one-of-a-kind, don’t you?
“Once I have an idea for a design, I sketch it on paper,” Maria tells me. “There may be a little bit of editing and I finally test it on a pot. Usually I’ll have the exact colour to try in mind. And usually by this stage, I’m pretty happy with the design.
All pots are made to order. This means that I don’t actually have any already made in the studio, each one is specifically made for each customer”.
If the images in this post have your heart racing as much as mine is, you gotta jump over to the Toast & Honey website and shop away. There’s nothing better than supporting a local creative doing amazing things in business.
I’ve always been a sucker for some quality geometric vibes so am naturally drawn to the Maya and Geneva, butttttt i cant go passed the Deco Stripe! it fits perfect into my interior greenery decor style. It’s a bit masculine, a bit industrial and a whole lot timeless!
My husband and I are moving into an apartment soon, a first for us, and we are keen to embrace indoor plants as we won’t have a backyard, which is also a first for us. We want it to be a fun experience and are enjoying getting inspiration from your Instagram account both in terms of your pots and also plants. I love the Venice pot in grey. It would be a great start to our collection!
Love the Sorbet Range, particularly the Neutral shade. So soft and elegant. I also love it in pink…reminds me of Summer ice cream colours. I am currently planting my outdoor terrace with tropical plants and i think it would fit perfectly!
There are so many beautiful pots, though my favorite would be the heartstrings one. So simple yet with style and could suit any room with its subtle beauty.
I love the Deco Stripe Pot as it is classic and elegant. I’m trying to improve my collection of indoor pots and thus would be a great place to start. Plants really enhance a room and have so many benefits.
The sorbet pot in pink! I love the simplicity and softness of the design, but that it also so unique and pleasing to the eye. It just makes me happy to look at it. I always love anything that’s made to order because it means that it’s made specially with you in mind.
I think the sorbet pot in black is the absolute business! It’s fabulous in its simplicity, but beautifully bold.
Oh my! They are all so pretty but if i have to choose just one design, I’d choose the sorbet range and i wouldn’t mind the yellow one because yellow is such a happy colour. I think it will add a pop of yellow to the living room we’re in the process of making over. This makeover is way overdue and I’m so glad we finally took the first step by ordering the first piece of furniture to get this project started last weekend. It’s a tan leather couch!
The Granita Pot is my fave! So different and unique!
I just started following toast & honey only last week on my hunt for some amazing pots to top off our renovations. I love so many of them but if I have to pick just one I would have to say the deco echo pot.
