I’m yet to meet a person who isn’t absolutely obsessed with designer plant pots. You know, those gorgeous handcrafted pots that feature bold tones, pretty patterns and sublime shapes. I might not be the best green thumb in the world, but Lord knows I adore me a stylish pot to house my plants in. And I know you do too!
On that note, I gotta tell you about local brand Toast & Honey Studio, who are absolutely killing it on the plant pot front. With a range that’s both broad and beautiful, I thought it time I find out how the creative mastermind behind the brand, Maria Karandasios, comes up with these dazzling designs.
Designer Plant Pots from Toast & Honey Studio
Toast and Honey Studio was born in 2017, a few years after Maria decided to step away from her role in architecture to get a better work/life balance; spending more time with her family and focusing on her creative side.
Founding a studio that specialises in pots, artworks and plywood decor, Maria has created a cohesive collection in her online store that’s quite modernist in its design aesthetic.
It’s actually her architectural background that influences the brand’s designs, but Maria tells me that inspiration often also comes out of left field.
“Sometimes it’s simply looking at the shape of my pots and trying to come up with a design that would be complimentary to their curves,” she explains. “Recently my two-year old was painting a picture and the brush strokes she used inspired me to try something new!”
Maria’s Fave Designs from the Range
As I mentioned earlier in this post, the range in the Toast & Honey online store is so broad. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a design you’re not keen on, as there’s a colour palette to suit every home’s interior design scheme.
While I’m absolutely obsessed with the Sorbet and Venice pots in the collection, Maria tells me that she’s drawn to a few other designs due to their playful nature and inspiration source.
“I love the Geneva pot as I think it looks great in black. It was also inspired by one of my favourite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright,” Maria says. “I also really like the Cosmopolitan pot; there’s something quite playful about it”.
It Takes a Village to Raise a Business
With two girls, Erin and Maya, and her husband Jonathan by her side, Maria has created an amazing brand. It’s a business that not only reflects her individual passion for bold design, but it’s a product range the public can’t get enough of.
Any creative business can be tough to get off the ground, take it from me. But in many cases, it’s even tougher to keep it going. Thankfully, Maria has the support structure she needs to ensure the brand continues to flourish for years to come.
Jonathan not only works his own job outside of the biz, but takes care of tasks like web development and project planning for Toast & Honey. It’s this support that helps Maria focus on the creative side of the business. And as you can see from the images of her work in this post, it’s a pretty amazing undertaking.
Every Pot is Made to Order
When it comes to creating the designs for her designer plant pots, Maria explains that every single one is made-to-order. I love that each pot is unique and one-of-a-kind, don’t you?
“Once I have an idea for a design, I sketch it on paper,” Maria tells me. “There may be a little bit of editing and I finally test it on a pot. Usually I’ll have the exact colour to try in mind. And usually by this stage, I’m pretty happy with the design.
All pots are made to order. This means that I don’t actually have any already made in the studio, each one is specifically made for each customer”.
If the images in this post have your heart racing as much as mine is, you gotta jump over to the Toast & Honey website and shop away. There’s nothing better than supporting a local creative doing amazing things in business.
Chris it has to be their ‘Deco Stripe Pot’; because I have a very French style balcony and the versatility of these beautiful pots is incredible. Whatever style decor you have you’ll find a ‘Toast & Honey’ pot to suit. Love them x
Who knew pots could look so good!! Never great with too many choices – they are all gorgeous, but there’s something about the sorbet and granita designs that grab me. So based on my love of all things sweet I’m easily tipped by the sorbet – it has a ‘watercolour’ type effect to it which oozes simplicity and calm. The perfect home for a happy plant!
I love them all honestly, but my favourite child…. Strip Tease. One for its cheeky name. Two for its elegant simplicity of navy and gold parallel lines. I’m drawn to those somewhat more traditional designs with a modern twist and I feel that from Strip Tease.
Nice little juxtaposition of elegant/traditional to cheeky strip tease too 😉
I love the Chicago pot! My partner just settled on a block of land so my mind is going a million miles an hour with ideas on how to style and build it! Definitely taking a lot of inspiration from TLC interiors ❤️
Super gorgeous range. The Black tie range is stunning and would fit in any decor. In fact all the range is to die for. Maria is very talented and love her prints too. Thank you for the opportunity to enter.
Deco Echo in pink/gold. Love anything Art Deco.
Oh my!! I’d love the Dip Tease Pot in the pink/gold stripe to make the nursery more feminine for my 6 week old daughter. She’ll be surrounded by her brother’s things, so this would be a nice touch and all hers!
I love the Manhattan Pot, why because who doesn’t love Manhattan. One of my best holidays trips yet.
So hard to pick one, love them all! But if I have to choose, Granita would be it! I love the abstract & organic paint contrast against the pot. It has a classic & timeless look & colour palette which will not date over time.
Super gorgeous range, Maria is very talented absolutely love the black tie range. So classy would go with anything love to see this in my home
