I’m yet to meet a person who isn’t absolutely obsessed with designer plant pots. You know, those gorgeous handcrafted pots that feature bold tones, pretty patterns and sublime shapes. I might not be the best green thumb in the world, but Lord knows I adore me a stylish pot to house my plants in. And I know you do too!
On that note, I gotta tell you about local brand Toast & Honey Studio, who are absolutely killing it on the plant pot front. With a range that’s both broad and beautiful, I thought it time I find out how the creative mastermind behind the brand, Maria Karandasios, comes up with these dazzling designs.
Designer Plant Pots from Toast & Honey Studio
Toast and Honey Studio was born in 2017, a few years after Maria decided to step away from her role in architecture to get a better work/life balance; spending more time with her family and focusing on her creative side.
Founding a studio that specialises in pots, artworks and plywood decor, Maria has created a cohesive collection in her online store that’s quite modernist in its design aesthetic.
It’s actually her architectural background that influences the brand’s designs, but Maria tells me that inspiration often also comes out of left field.
“Sometimes it’s simply looking at the shape of my pots and trying to come up with a design that would be complimentary to their curves,” she explains. “Recently my two-year old was painting a picture and the brush strokes she used inspired me to try something new!”
Maria’s Fave Designs from the Range
As I mentioned earlier in this post, the range in the Toast & Honey online store is so broad. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a design you’re not keen on, as there’s a colour palette to suit every home’s interior design scheme.
While I’m absolutely obsessed with the Sorbet and Venice pots in the collection, Maria tells me that she’s drawn to a few other designs due to their playful nature and inspiration source.
“I love the Geneva pot as I think it looks great in black. It was also inspired by one of my favourite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright,” Maria says. “I also really like the Cosmopolitan pot; there’s something quite playful about it”.
It Takes a Village to Raise a Business
With two girls, Erin and Maya, and her husband Jonathan by her side, Maria has created an amazing brand. It’s a business that not only reflects her individual passion for bold design, but it’s a product range the public can’t get enough of.
Any creative business can be tough to get off the ground, take it from me. But in many cases, it’s even tougher to keep it going. Thankfully, Maria has the support structure she needs to ensure the brand continues to flourish for years to come.
Jonathan not only works his own job outside of the biz, but takes care of tasks like web development and project planning for Toast & Honey. It’s this support that helps Maria focus on the creative side of the business. And as you can see from the images of her work in this post, it’s a pretty amazing undertaking.
Every Pot is Made to Order
When it comes to creating the designs for her designer plant pots, Maria explains that every single one is made-to-order. I love that each pot is unique and one-of-a-kind, don’t you?
“Once I have an idea for a design, I sketch it on paper,” Maria tells me. “There may be a little bit of editing and I finally test it on a pot. Usually I’ll have the exact colour to try in mind. And usually by this stage, I’m pretty happy with the design.
All pots are made to order. This means that I don’t actually have any already made in the studio, each one is specifically made for each customer”.
If the images in this post have your heart racing as much as mine is, you gotta jump over to the Toast & Honey website and shop away. There’s nothing better than supporting a local creative doing amazing things in business.
Um, any! I love these are made to order, so many amazing combinations of colours and patterns. I think the Ivy or the Aztec, actually maybe the Manhattan…… in black x
After seemingly endless tossing and turning I’ve decided my favourite from this delightful range is the yellow Sorbet pot. A gorgeous pop of colour that I can already envision on my sideboard. The heartstrings and deco stripe are also beautiful and unique designs. Thank you for introducing me to this designer and her inspiring collection.
The deco stripe pot is my favourite as I am having a love affair with Art Deco and the 1920s era. Fabulous darling!
So hard to choose, but I do love the Ivy Pot. Can’t go past pink, so on trend. I have a Breezeway and it would look fabulous in there with a large Raphis palm. (Lady palm)
i love them all But the “Manhattan Pot” is the one that took my eye the best. Elegant and would add a statement to my home.
I am just finishing a massive renovation and it’s looking a bit bland so any of these would be great to add colour and beauty
Hi!
Everything is just perfect!!
It’s not east to choose!
I will choose the Monochrome white – it’s classic and elegant and always look good. Or – the Manhattan – which is beautiful and has the name of my favorite city in the world!
Oh My! How do you choose just 1?! Loving the Dip Tease Pot – Gold Stripe in the blue. Furnishing a house running with your tan and baby blue idea with a hint of gold from your blog a few months back. This would look divine in the corner. I just might have to buy a few as they are all gorgeous! Great find.
Sorbet Pot’s remind me of icecreams and would be iconic to a lovely kitchen reminding all that everyday is as sweet as dessert.
Obsessing over all of your designs. What an amazing way to bring some colour and personality to ones space. Loving the Heartstrings range, so mystical, like a distant galaxy.
