I’m yet to meet a person who isn’t absolutely obsessed with designer plant pots. You know, those gorgeous handcrafted pots that feature bold tones, pretty patterns and sublime shapes. I might not be the best green thumb in the world, but Lord knows I adore me a stylish pot to house my plants in. And I know you do too!
On that note, I gotta tell you about local brand Toast & Honey Studio, who are absolutely killing it on the plant pot front. With a range that’s both broad and beautiful, I thought it time I find out how the creative mastermind behind the brand, Maria Karandasios, comes up with these dazzling designs.
Designer Plant Pots from Toast & Honey Studio
Toast and Honey Studio was born in 2017, a few years after Maria decided to step away from her role in architecture to get a better work/life balance; spending more time with her family and focusing on her creative side.
Founding a studio that specialises in pots, artworks and plywood decor, Maria has created a cohesive collection in her online store that’s quite modernist in its design aesthetic.
It’s actually her architectural background that influences the brand’s designs, but Maria tells me that inspiration often also comes out of left field.
“Sometimes it’s simply looking at the shape of my pots and trying to come up with a design that would be complimentary to their curves,” she explains. “Recently my two-year old was painting a picture and the brush strokes she used inspired me to try something new!”
Maria’s Fave Designs from the Range
As I mentioned earlier in this post, the range in the Toast & Honey online store is so broad. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a design you’re not keen on, as there’s a colour palette to suit every home’s interior design scheme.
While I’m absolutely obsessed with the Sorbet and Venice pots in the collection, Maria tells me that she’s drawn to a few other designs due to their playful nature and inspiration source.
“I love the Geneva pot as I think it looks great in black. It was also inspired by one of my favourite architects, Frank Lloyd Wright,” Maria says. “I also really like the Cosmopolitan pot; there’s something quite playful about it”.
It Takes a Village to Raise a Business
With two girls, Erin and Maya, and her husband Jonathan by her side, Maria has created an amazing brand. It’s a business that not only reflects her individual passion for bold design, but it’s a product range the public can’t get enough of.
Any creative business can be tough to get off the ground, take it from me. But in many cases, it’s even tougher to keep it going. Thankfully, Maria has the support structure she needs to ensure the brand continues to flourish for years to come.
Jonathan not only works his own job outside of the biz, but takes care of tasks like web development and project planning for Toast & Honey. It’s this support that helps Maria focus on the creative side of the business. And as you can see from the images of her work in this post, it’s a pretty amazing undertaking.
Every Pot is Made to Order
When it comes to creating the designs for her designer plant pots, Maria explains that every single one is made-to-order. I love that each pot is unique and one-of-a-kind, don’t you?
“Once I have an idea for a design, I sketch it on paper,” Maria tells me. “There may be a little bit of editing and I finally test it on a pot. Usually I’ll have the exact colour to try in mind. And usually by this stage, I’m pretty happy with the design.
All pots are made to order. This means that I don’t actually have any already made in the studio, each one is specifically made for each customer”.
If the images in this post have your heart racing as much as mine is, you gotta jump over to the Toast & Honey website and shop away. There’s nothing better than supporting a local creative doing amazing things in business.
Understated sensuality, effortless chic and classic lines with a dash of quirkiness, the Venice pot is a statement in style. Better yet, it is so easily adjustable according to position, foliage and my mood.
The entire range looks amazing. My most favourite is Sorbet yellow pot.
They are all so gorgeous! My immediate favourite though is the pink sorbet.I love pink , always have even though i was a total tomboy as a kid.My mum always said i was “as rough as guts” lol! But i still secretly loved pink & barbies & all that girlie stuff 🙂 I decorate with mostly nuetrals but i always have accents of pink or mint splashed about. Also the sorbet design reminds me of watercolour paintings which i also love. Thanks for the chance, love your work❤
I’ve been lusting after these pots for a while now. They are all honestly beautiful but as I’m being forced to choose a favourite… drum roll… the sorbet in light grey gets my vote! It’s stunningly simple but has a big impact and would be a perfect partner for my fiddle leaf who has spent way too long in her budget pot and deserves an upgrade.
Ivy you absolute beauty. The design is simple yet striking and has enough going on to be interesting without taking away from the plant. How stunning is the pink and gold combination! What a talent
oh my goodness they are all so utterly totally divine – but the sorbet pot is calling my name because it is totally funky, my eye is drawn instantly to the pot as the colour – white – plant combination just screams LOOK AT ME – I am so glad you have let me know about these pots 🙂
Dip tease in Blue and Gold! Why?!
Because it’s oh so sheek, and with a name like that – it’s a little bit cheeky love love love
I can’t decide between the sorbet & the granita! Both in pink! Both are gorgeous contemporary designs that will add a huge impact to any space, and be the perfect pot to start my indoor plant journey! I’m so excited I discovered this page!
I’m new to buying plantsfor our home and have been searching weeks for the right planter(s) and these are so unique and beautiful
I’ve been staring at the pots all week trying to narrow down my fav and I’m actually in love with the “Manhattan pot” in the pink.. it’s just so perfect
I fell in love with the pink sorbet as soon I saw it! It reminds me of strawberry ice-cream and summer nights. It will be adding a ray of sunshine to my home!
