  1. Now when I hear the phrase “Palm Springs” I just cringe. JT front is as classy as the theme decorations on an RSL. They do the job, they look the part but they are just tacky and don’t get me started on the choice of furniture and colour palette.

The judges were so caught up in the kids playing at the front. Trust me if you are paying 3Mil+ for a house you value your privacy. The ain’t gonna be anyone cracking a beer while Sheila and Johnny play there.

Facadewise I think Tash’s is beautiful they just miss the mask in the actual garden. All it needs is grass, green hedges and not play Hopscotch everytime you enter the house.

    1. I agree. It’s on a busy road too, nobody is going to sit back with a glass of wine on the front porch!

  2. First place should have been Harry and Tash’s. There is a sense of lushness and sophistication. Those plants will grow in beautifully, and the pebbles are an easyyyyy fix. I would ordinarily hate the brick arch too…butttttt when you view it straight on, there is something about that archway perfectly balancing the arch window to the right of the façade.
Second should have been Sarah and George. I’m the opposite Chris, those bricks are absolutely everything and I would spend a stupid amount of cash to have them.
With Luke and Jasmine’s, I’m sorry but I cannot look past that front path. It seems all the houses had to have some weird pits/drains in the centre of their yards (why there though?!), but I cannot look straight down L+J’s path from the entry gate and just ignore that those pit lids jot out of the straight line! I just cannot. The outside lines of the path should have had the pavers staggered (like the paving to the left) to at least somewhat disguise those awful pit lids. I cant look passed that and nothing else in that garden can make me unsee it!

  3. Regardless that they hadn’t finished things I’m very sad for Harry & Tash because their front yard was the best. What a stupid comment from the judge on the little grassed area when one of the top ones judged had far less than Harry & Tash’s.

  4. Absolutely loved Daniel and Jades design and colours used. Inviting, welcoming and full of charm and character!
Harry’s has good bones but too many different elements make it a bit of a hodge podge.
Jimmy and Tams “The Junction” just needs a neon Vacancy sign on the front and be in the Arizona Dessert and it would be great.

  5. Oh my they’ve bombed the judging again. Shayna’s comment in Harry & Tasha’s yard was where will the kids play???. There’s only one little square if grass. Then she gets to Jimmy & Tams yard and she gushes about how spectacular it is. Nothing about where will the kids play. And for Neil to rave about it being perfect Palm Springs – sorry Neil we live in Australia not USA. This would probably be ok in Alice Springs but NOT Brighton in Victoria. Jimmy &Tam spent nearly $52000 on their yard – what a disgraceful waste of money. I’m hoping that buyers will boycott the auction of this house and prove that these two have no idea on design or colour.

  6. I couldn’t agree more, honestly at this point it seems like another bad joke 2020 is playing. There’s a mint green kitchen worth over $200k and no dining table to speak of in an entertainers home ‍♀️

  7. Ah, a bit of sanity at last. I agree totally with you regarding Jimmy and Tams front yard, totally boring and uninteresting in every way. They seem to be the judges sweethearts who can do no wrong. Sarah and George’s yard is plain and boring and those bricks look unfinished they would have done better to render them. Luke and Jasmins place is nice but contrary to what others think, I rather like the water feature. The real winner for me though is Harry and Tashas place. Okay the garden bed on the right is a bit sparse but will look better when the plants grow more. Everything else is beautiful, maybe a little outdated but let’s not forget they are period homes. If I had the money I would buy their place above the others. It looks like home!

    1. I agree! I think the bricks on Sarah and George’s yard look too perfect; they’re supposed to be reclaimed, but they’ve been painted. It was jarring to my eye, all I could see was bright colours on bricks! I liked Harry & Tash’s house, it was a bit overdone, I’d have pared back the paving to a softer, square grey, and no white, and no archway. The house is the feature, the garden should support it.

  8. I totally agree with you Chris.
I have never seen a desert garden in Brighton.
It’s ugly and if potential buyers have small children the cactus will have to be taken out, there’s no maintenance at all, which may be good for some, but houses in Brighton have gorgeous front yards. I agree with your comments that the two second places should have been equal winners.
The judges were very unfair about Harry and Tash, there was too much going on and they could have pulled back by not adding everything they could, I feel the same as you all that was missing was a lion’s head.
But, part of the responsibility needs to go to the landscape designer.
The judges have been hard on Harry and Tash from the beginning.
I hope they make a good profit to make up for all the years Tash has shed from day one.

  9. Other than house 3 & 4 I was not a fan. For family homes they needed to think outdoor space for kids. I think edible plants & trees, and good plants for bees were a missed opportunity. It is possible to do all of the above With style.

  10. I can’t believe that house 5 again is winning. Luke and Jasmines, Harry and Tash both beautiful front yards. House 5 has no lawn. Judging is so in consistent

    1. Couldn’t agree more Debbie.
Chris is so right about that sloppy attempt to bring Palm Springs to Melbourne.

    2. Absolutely agree! How can a judge complain there’s not enough front lawn in House No. 1, but then award House No. 5 with the win?? Ridiculous. I’ve always said, they should have a builder, a real estate agent, and an interior designer as judges; not three interior designers!
