  1. Totally agree re Mitch and Marks’ guest room…… that mismatch of lime green on the wardrobe doors and the hint of khaki colour in the bedding threw me immediately. Overwrought space that lacked theme. I just love Georgia and Ronnies’ sophisticated colour, fabric and accessories choices and believe they’re giving all the other competitors big lessons in styling. Sometimes more is not better, it’s just more. As far as the dynamic duo (twins) go, what can you say? The only room (aside from their winning bathroom) that showed any cohesion was styled by one of their girlfriends wasn’t it? I think Tanya and Vito are developing an eclectic style and though it does miss the mark on a few things I am becoming a fan. I loved their original bathroom tiles and thought that the redo didn’t lift the room at all. The original light fitting had too much personality and the replacement not enough I thought. I’m not sure these two could ever design living spaces for other people as their own taste would overtake everything.

  2. I can’t believe I’ve only just discovered this blog! Where have you been all my life? Couldn’t agree more with your assessments of the guest bedrooms and looking forward to seeing what you have to say about the kitchens coming up. Thank you for the laughs too (had the exact same reaction to The Masked Singer)

  3. I’ve not watched any of this season of the Block, and I’ve only just discovered this page, so maybe this has been covered before, but what’s with all the skylights? In a kids bedroom? I want them to sleep, not be woken at 5am. 100% would not buy a house with the skylights in the bedrooms.

  4. Actually Chris, I agree with most of your comments, but it’s your wicked sense of humour that cracks me up every time I read your reviews….

    Just love your blogs.

  5. “It’s like something from a horror movie. Pick up the walky-talky and someone will tell you that you only have seven days to live. Spin the wheel five times clockwise and the Candyman will appear. The only thing missing is Annabel, that creepy doll from The Conjuring.

I actually wouldn’t change much here though, outside of removing the vintage play set that frees the souls of angry spirits to wreak havoc on your bedroom.”

This made me spray my coffee all over my keyboard with laughter and reinforces why your reviews are the best bit about The Block. Excuse me while I fetch some wipes….

  6. ‘It’s like that scene in Chicago where the women are dancing behind bars. You could do your own version of that song while unleashing fury.’ This line made me laugh out loud haha!

  7. I don’t think RnGs room was anything out of the box for number 1.
I found it bland and uninviting, the bed is too high and the bedsides too low with stupid little lamps. Also I think the chair looks short and out of place.
MnMs was over cluttered , the child they have catered for will trip trying to get to things. Wasted money.
JnK getting there but slowly, good second but could have been a winner, more appeal than RuG, still a small room needing a tweak. The rest ……who knows!!
I dislike RnGs arrogance and sticky beaking. And worrying about everyone else’s house.

  8. I just loved Kirsty and Jesse’s guest/kids bedroom. If it had more wardrobe space, I’d use it myself, it was gorgeous. Also loved their redo master bedroom. The grey was a better wall colour.
I liked Ronnie and Georgia’s bedroom but I didn’t love it. I know they had to use their challenge piece in there, but I didn’t like it. Perhaps a throw in the same pink as the cushions, would have given it the touch it needed.
Loved Mitch and Mark’s kids room, it was cute and practical. Their redo room was typical of them, lovely colours and linen.
Tanya and Vito’s kids room was also cute, but because the beds were built in, it’s going to be harder to change later, when the kids are older. Loved their redo bathroom.
I liked the bedhead in the twins guest bedroom, but that’s it. The screen in the redo bathroom didn’t add much.

  9. Another epic review of expert and hilarious proportions, Chris. Thank you. Your comments about the twins redo bathroom, that odd wooden toilet zone screen, had me step away from the ‘puter so I could double up and belly laugh. Speaking of the twins, what they perceive as being picked on by the judges has more to say about their own arrogance in addressing feedback than their skills or lack of skills with decor. I have not liked any of their rooms yet that doesn’t mean others won’t. I am hardly their demographic, I get it, but when a team of experienced people week in/week out point out where they could make improvements, perhaps it would be wise to listen just a tad and not sulk like thwarted teenagers. How often do the judges have to point out they are building the homes for a buyer, not themselves.
I loved Mitch and Mark’s kiddie bedroom – that wallpaper! – but agree with you it was too busily styled. Pull all that stuff out of the corner bar the shelving, and replace with less ornaments and a comfy chair and it would be more soothing. I didn’t like Tanya and Vito’s kiddie’s room, and agree with ShayBlae it was too clinical. The terrazzo wallpaper didn’t warm me up. Nope. It seems I am a softly classic girl living in a terrazzo world. At the other end of the spectrum is the floral wallpaper in Kirsty and Jesse’s kid’s room, delicious and a joy to behold.
I do agree with you that storage solutions have been neglected. The teams focus too much on what lies above, skylights and panelled walls, and sweeping ceilings, instead of concentrating on the practicality of things at floor level where the buyer will actually live.

  10. I’ll happily sit in the minority with you…those tiles in T&V’s bathroom were killer! I loved that they were not only unexpected and not boring, they were actually really nice! i am so over the boringgggggg spaces most of these couples do each week. I get that the show is about mass appeal and widening your target buyer pool, but after 7,623 seasons I’m a little over it, tbh. I am still obsessed with T&V’s shower screen and door tho, so I guess I’ll just have to take solace with that.
