  1. Tom and Sarah Jane, got to wonder if Sarah is related to someone on the production team. Personally, I do not like their house and find it difficult to understand why they won anything. as for the water feature, left over guttering, throw in some pebbles and turn on the tap. Yep, that had one judge beside herself with glee. Also think it may be time to consider new judges. By the day of auction, there will be a lot of improvements and completions I should imagine. Or maybe only on house 1

  2. how can judging be fair when all houses bar house 1 can be judged the same house one was only completely finished

  3. I certainly agree with yours, and the judges’ comments about house 3. OMG, the poor house must by crying from the inside out! I disagree about house 4 – that tiny home is a huge game changer. As Darren Palmer rightly said, it effectively gives that house 6 bedrooms. It’s a massive value add (as well as a significant tax deduction for an invester) as extra guest accommodation and/or Airbnb, or a quiet retreat for say, a writer, etc. The versatility of that tiny home definitely beats what Tom and Sarah-Jane did. Their deck is clearly unfinished and, as Shaynna pointed out, there were some bits on the deck next to the grassed area where clearly the steps lead down to that area. I also think they were going to install glass along the verandah, but ran out of time. The ease with which you can see the whole outdoor (pool, lawn area, kitchen garden) area from Jenny and Dylan’s place is far more appealing to me as a buyer. The landscaping is far more seamless than all the other houses (T&S-J) have way too much going on, and it would be hard to keep an eye on any littlies with all the zones for them. That chicken coop is going to fall apart within 12 months (I’ve had 2 of them – and I painted mine!) – and there is simply not enough room for them to free range, as well as that pony area is akin to the size of a shoe box! Overall, house 4 is my pick of all the houses. It’s a seamless flow from the front door right through to the pool. As far as I’m concerned, house 4 has a very good chance of being the dark horse come auction. Also, Rachel and Ryan have a massive value add with that vineyard. You probably missed that bit, but Rachel revealed, in front of the other contestants and Danny Wallace, that the vineyard will be managed by a contractor – in other words, the contractor gets the grapes, and the owner gets a certain $ amount for the use of the vineyard – again, another huge tax deduction… and something Danny Wallace certainly noted when told! Anyway, my prediction for auction win is House 5 or house 2, followed by house 4 (again, they could be the dark horse, as their place is considerably low maintenance), house 1 then house 3.

  4. Love reading your comments and have looked forward to your post each week and agree with you totally especially about Tom & Sarah Janes rusty farm equipment as it’s dangerous and an accident waiting to happen..I also dislike that tartan wallpaper and why not put in larger pools instead of all the other sports things..just wonder if they will sell?? and if they will get a good price..hope Jenny & Dylan do great as they were the best

  5. Chris, I will miss your honest constructive comments for the real world! The previous comments were spot on. There is more to owning a 4 legged friend than a pony pen. Gimme shelter for the outdoor living areas. The overall architectural disconnect was a huge mistake. It will be interesting to see who buys at auction. The properties are out of most peoples budget. Luxury does not mean all the toys. We live in a small house on 20 acres of bush, birdlife and quiet. That is luxury.

  6. Completely agree, the gel between old & new facades is awful. Looks like the shed is attached to the house. Also agree, pools are far too small! Pretty much agree with everything else you said too … well done us!

  7. House no1 had the advantage from the start. Win more money so they could spend more on the landscaping, plus why would you put a pony in a small yard for judging but didn’t loose any points for the fact the horse had no shelter from the elements, no grass to eat and who is going to look after it for the next week until house goes to auction. They were the judges favourites from start to finish he was a worker she was a spoilt person with a bad mouth and seemed to go to the shops for food every chance she had come back eating and not offering him any. I am a female and honestly couldn’t stand her one little bit.

  8. Fully agree with the facades, they just do not work. No way would I buy these homes.
I can’t understand why there are no amazing steps leading down to the lawn. Sarah and Tom’s home had these daggy cheap wooden steps that are meaningless to the rest of the home.
And my biggest whinge, no outdoor shelters. All that money spent on gimmicks in their backyard when a decent covered area, for lounges, barbis, tables would be better.
Gosh I am going to miss reading your reviews.

  9. Hi, l just wondering who is going to finish these projects, as not 1 of them were completed. I thought by the last day had finished these house were to fully finished? Did their defects get finished? Because house 2 won because theirs was the most completed. And then you look at the outsides, there was no timbers to cover the under parts of the houses, all the mud and yes l know they have had trouble getting some things for the sheds but so much not completed. I was also wondering when did house 3 get time to paint the tin in the hallway? Because sunday nights show, showed it as black but in their listing it’s white? As my daughter said they should have been given 2 weeks to complete the landscaping? Thanks Di
