I’ve made a few candles in my time at home and while it may be fun and games to create a couple for yourself, turning that passion into a fully-fledged business is an epic undertaking.

It’s not for the faint hearted, that’s for sure, and it’s something that - like any small business venture - takes loads of determination and a lot of guts.

It was November 2013 when I first laid nostril on SAW Interiors Candles. The gorgeous lady behind the Aussie brand, Stacey Wellington, had sent me a sample to try and since then the brand has gone gangbusters. This post is so much more than a candle making story, though; it's a look at what happens when you choose to follow your creative dreams. Cue the inspirational music!

"I have a pretty simple rule of thumb when choosing candles scents," says Jo Reid, the talented lady behind local brand Violet + Rose. "If it smells like bubble gum or air freshener, it's no go!". This is just one of the reasons why I adore these brand new scented candles. Here's a few more that'll have you equally smitten and eager to get your hands on one!

Made by Hand BookGetting crafty doesn't come as natural to me as, say, styling a room would. I find I always need a bit of a push or some inspirational imagery to get me excited to whip out the sewing machine and give something a go. Thankfully Made by Hand by Lena Corwin hit my mailbox recently and did just that!

Pigeon & Weasel CandlesCreatives, you know by now that I'm in dire need of an intervention to deal with my increasing candle addiction. But if I may be afforded one last binge, like the contestant have on The Biggest Loser before they start their diet, I wish it to be with a Pigeon & Weasle candle. Primarily, the scent 'Red Frog', which as the title suggests, smells like the lollies of the same name. This is one candle making story with a difference - and it involves utilising recycled beer bottles. Genius!
