A few weeks back, I showcased the colour trends that are big in Autumn decorating for 2016. In this post, we're taking a look at the textures, patterns and scents you can rock in your home now that the weather is getting cooler (and Lordy am I elated that summer has come to an end!).
About this time of the year, each year, I start nesting. You know how pregnant women tend to do that when the baby is about to arrive? I do it about six weeks before Christmas hits. As an absolute festive nutter, Christmas ideas start bubbling away early November, as I think about how I'll decorate my apartment for the silly season.
Why was no-one making trendy looking beeswax candles?
That’s the question that pushed local creative Erin Gilbert to begin working on her very own candle brand; Honey & Glow.
“Let's face it - a candle really shouldn't cost the earth,” says Alyson Sturley of TANDA, when I ask her what her candle brand is all about. “I tried to make a candle that was truly transcendent of style, age, and gender norms, whilst still maintaining affordability”.
I knew I liked this brand for a reason!
I’ve made a few candles in my time at home and while it may be fun and games to create a couple for yourself, turning that passion into a fully-fledged business is an epic undertaking.
It’s not for the faint hearted, that’s for sure, and it’s something that - like any small business venture - takes loads of determination and a lot of guts.
"I have a pretty simple rule of thumb when choosing candles scents," says Jo Reid, the talented lady behind local brand Violet + Rose. "If it smells like bubble gum or air freshener, it's no go!". This is just one of the reasons why I adore these brand new scented candles. Here's a few more that'll have you equally smitten and eager to get your hands on one!
