Hello Hue: The new IKEA Giltig Collection is a Colour Lovers Dream

If you’re not one to shy away from bright homewares and bold interiors, then the new GILTIG collection from IKEA is going to blow your mind. Prepare your eyes for some high velocity hue; this range is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

The new IKEA Giltig Collection

One of my predicted interiors trends for 2016 was Colour Carnevale. You can read more about it by clicking here, but the moral of the story is that IKEA seems to be playing right into my hand (snaps for me for an accurate trend prediction).

Their new limited edition collection, IKEA GILTIG, is everything the Colour Carnevale trend celebrates; rocking bold hue, primary colours and clashing tones to create a vivid and electrifying interior – that doesn’t shy away from making a statement!

IKEA has teamed up with London-based menswear designer Katie Eary for this new release, which takes her kooky designs and plants them on a series of kitchenware, tableware, textiles and more. It’s definitely like nothing IKEA has ever done before, and I reckon the results are nothing short of amazing.

The theory behind this collection is that a single item can change a whole room. The motifs  in the range feature animals like cats and fish, as well as eyeballs in both small and large-scale prints. The idea is that the decor is looking back at you. And the only question that remains is; can you handle it?

There’s something wonderfully irreverent and playful about these designs that really appeals to me. In the photos you see here, the volume is intentionally turned up rather high and there’s a lot going on, but if you took each individual item and put it in a more subdued setting, there are definitely ways they can create a moment that doesn’t feel too visually overwhelming.

Both the lampshade and the tray that feature the Mexican fighting fish are the standout pieces for me. I’d rock them at home in a heartbeat. The gorgeous blue and red tones in the lampshade especially would really bring a room to life.

Being the unapologetic crazy cat man that I am, I also can’t go past the kitten mugs and matching saucer. What a great way to bring some colour to the kitchen.

The IKEA GILTIG collection lands in stores April and I am going to be on it like white on rice!
