As you well know, when I moved into my forever home late last year, there were numerous design elements I hated.
Having bought the home off-the-plan (and coming in at the end of the process), all of the decisions had been made – including the cheap and nasty carpet the builder chose to install.
While the oyster lights and vertical blinds were also an eyesore – and still need to go – the carpet was killing me the most. It was dark and gloomy, it was as hard as a rock, and the cats poor little claws got stuck in it all the time.
In fact, even in the middle of the night, there was no way you could tip toe out of bed. The carpet almost crunched when you walked on it. And it was driving my batty.
So I put the call out to my friends at Choices Flooring, and they were kind enough to answer my prayers.
Here are the dreamy results of the carpet transformation…

Choosing the Right Carpet Type was Step 1
The first step was to go in-store to take a look at some carpet samples. I knew I wanted a much lighter carpet than the dark grey, but deciding on the right type of carpet was still up for debate.
I knew it needed to have a few things going for it:
- The carpet has to be soft and plush underfoot. I wanted to be able to sit on it sometimes.
- It had to be stain resistant (the cats have all sorts of vomiting spells and other moments you don’t wanna know about).
- I needed it to be low maintenance and easy to clean (a simple vacuum is all I have the patience for).
- It had to be fade resistant too. One bedroom cops loads of sun and I wanted the carpet to stand the test of time.
.
Solution Dyed Nylon was the winner because it ticked all of the above requirements.

The ‘Your Floor’ Tool helps you Visualise the Room
I took ‘before’ shot of the rooms and uploaded them into the Choices Flooring ‘Your Floor’ tool (it’s on their website here). Once you do that, you’ll get a unique code.
Take the code to a Choice Flooring showroom that has an Inspiration Station in it. You can phone ahead and double check if you need.
Once you get in-store, the team will help you use the Inspiration Station to get your room photo up and overlay different carpet colours and types in the space. This helps you visualise what the room will look like, and it’s a really amazing tool.
Measure, Quote and Install was Easy
You can even take some carpet samples home with you if need be, which I did. Once I knew which one I wanted, I just had to book in the measure and quote.
The process was really easy, the quote was sorted, and install took place shortly after.
You can opt to move all of the furniture outta the room yourself, or have the team do it for you. Once that’s done the install only took a few hours. And as you can see, the difference is night and day!
What do you Think?
I’d love to know what you think of the change. I’m naturally beside myself at how dramatic the after shots look in comparison to the before photos.
I am so glad to be rid of that old carpet. It was something from a 90s corporate office – not something you want in your bedroom.

Can you advise the colour of the carpet? Thanks
Hey Tony. No worries at all. The carpet is Crossley Twist in White Duck. Nice and light but not too light. I feel like it’s a happy medium 🙂
Your before carpet is identical to what we have! We built 6 years ago and made the big mistake not to upgrade the standard builders carpet due to spending over $50,000 extra in other upgrades. At the time we thought we thought we would redo the carpet after a couple of years but I’m still waiting lol.
You new carpet is also exactly what I want :-).
Oh Anna, I feel your pain! As soon as I saw that old carpet go down I thought… I CANNOT DO THIS! lol. I hope you get your dream carpet soon. I cannot tell you what a difference it makes to the look of the room but also the feel of it too.
