  1. Hi I have some carved oak carolean dining chairs and want to match a dining table to them. They are beautiful but can be overwhelming. The dining area is not big but has high ceilings and French doors.

  2. Thank you so much for this informative article. I think I have made a terrible mistake!! Both the dinibg table & chairs were purchased separately online. The table is a Hamptons style with white central base & a solid oak top (oval). The wishbone chairs (haven’t received them yet) are called Natural but I think they are a beech. When we received the tanle the oak is more towards the browns rather than the honey or teak shades. The room is quite white (floors & walls) & I am very worried that the chairs will be too different from the table top. Is it all going to be totally wrong & what chairs should I have gone for? Thanks in advance. Anne

  3. Hi,

Thank you for your article. Could you please help me to choose a right dinning table that would go good with the Rutherford Woven Rush Dining Side Chair from William Sonoma?
I am lost. Should I go with round or rectangle? The rectangle table can’t be more than 64ā€-66ā€. The round table can’t be more than 54ā€. At the same time I think 48ā€ round table would be too small
    Thank you

  4. Thank you for writing this informative piece! I have a traditional, black/espresso, round pedestal, 40″ table. I’m not fond of the color, but I inherited it by default and need selecting chairs. It’s been a painful process finding chairs that would help modernize and lighten up the space. My eye always goes straight to the beautiful natural colored tables, but replacing the table is not an option right now. What type of chairs would you suggest a good pairing with my table? I would appreciate hearing back from you! Most Sincerely, Cherie

  5. I loved this article! It has given me some great ideas and it’s so practical! I would love to ask for some help please with trying to find the right outdoor chairs for a table we recently purchased. It’s a teak table top with stainless steel legs. We’re interested in comfort as well as a good look. I was looking at black or charcoal grey sling backs with similar colour legs (eg. Black or charcoal grey). Now gravitating towards stainless steel legs to try and tie it into the table, but as we live near the sea (100 metres away), it seems that only certain types of stainless steel are suitable, otherwise it corrodes. To avoid paying a small fortune, the ones I’ve been looking at aren’t suitable. Can you please offer any suggestions? Many thanks!

  6. Great article! Question: I am making a zebrawood table with gold metal legs. I am keen to get upholstered chairs (either grey or navy), and all the ones I like (and can afford!) either have black / gold / black with gold tipped metal legs. My floors are white, wood effect porcelain. Any advice?

  7. Loved this article, I have brick walls and vintage plank wood floors (Very Industrial) Bought a beautiful Haziz rug to go under a concrete dining table with black legs. Buying chairs separately, and thinking of doing brown leather? or any other recommendations? Not sure about fabric or other woods since I want to add side tables or wine cabinets that would be a reclaimed wood look. Thoughts?

  8. Hi Chris, thanks for your really helpful article.
Which chairs would go with bassano oak table with stainless steel legs?
I have a castello bassano oak dining table by Room05. The floor is wooden but lighter than the table.

A lot of our furniture is brown. How to break the monotony.

  9. Really informative! What material would you suggest for the dining table and its chairs if we have an open kitchen with brown brick walls?

  10. Beautiful round up of dining chairs. I’m having a hard time picking a favorite. Loving all of them. This might be my new aesthetic for my dining room. Thank you so much for sharing!
