Prepare yourself for the mother of all home tours today, decorating junkies, because the Metricon Lumiere display home is going to kick your ooh-ing and ahh-ing into overdrive.
Part of Metricon’s display home network refresh, the Lumiere is one of 18 homes Australia’s fave home builder has unveiled in the last 10 weeks. It’s actually the biggest influx of new displays ever in their 46-year history, and it’s quite the designer show-stopper.
An expansive five-bedroom home split across two levels, it’s actually Metricon’s biggest yet. Part of their signature range of homes, the Lumiere in Mt Waverley, Victoria, ticks all the boxes when it comes to home living in a post-Covid world.
Scroll on as we take a look at the best bits from this undeniable beauty.
This post is produced in partnership with Metricon.
Expansive Living Spaces Are Flooded with Natural Light
Open-plan living at the rear of the properly is a bit of a Metricon staple, but in the Lumiere Display Home (as you can see) things are even grander than usual.
Of course, as with all Metricon homes, you get the flooding of natural light through windows and doors, allowing you to enjoy the sense of air and space. But in this home you get the added bonus of a jaw-dropping full-height void over the dining room.
This void not only creates a sense of grandeur, drawing your eye up toward the high ceiling, but makes room for more windows to further draw in the light.
It also connects you to the upper level of the property and affords you the opportunity to have an epic lighting moment over the dining table. And who doesn’t love an epic lighting moment?
Above: the wine cellar, right near the dining room, allows entertaining at home to become a more elevated experience. Below: In true Metricon style, the lines between indoors and out are wonderfully blurred.
Alfresco Zones Blur the Line Between Indoors and Out
Metricon has always been the master of creating indoor zones that flow seamlessly onto alfresco ones. And with the Lumiere, they’ve excelled again. Every living space inside pulls your eye outward, creating an even greater sense of space and making outdoor rooms more liveable.
This connection didn’t happen by accident, either. The team responded directly to feedback from the market, which has come to expect more out of every space at home post-Covid. Outdoor spaces are now fully-fledged rooms to live in and enjoy, with outdoor kitchens another key must-have.
In the image above you’ll notice that the ceiling is covered in the same material as the one inside to create a sense of cohesion, while the colour palette reflects what’s happening inside to ensure complete design harmony.
Above and below: this spacious bedroom at the front of the property, on the ground floor, isn’t even the master, but it sure feels like it. It’s contemporary grandeur at ever turn in this home.
Five Bedrooms Make Multi-Generational Living Easy
Yet another style signature from Metricon is positioning a bedroom on the ground floor toward the front of the property. This approach is all about addressing the needs of their customers. And in modern times, it’s all about multi-generational living.
A bedroom on the ground floor like this one above (with its own walk-in-robe and ensuite, of course) allows elderly parents to live in the home with a zone to call their own. Or, for families with kids not eager to move out, it offers them a bedroom away from younger siblings upstairs.
You can also make this your primary guest suite if you wanted to. That’s what’s so good about the Lumiere; the versatility is there so you can put your own stamp on spaces in terms of functionality, all without compromising on style.
An Epic Master Suite You’d Never Need to Leave
‘Epic’ almost doesn’t feel big enough a word to describe this master suite, which sits on the first floor at the rear of the property. In fact, ‘suite’ almost doesn’t feel enough of a descriptor either. Perhaps we’ll settle on ‘Monumental Wing’. That feels more fitting.
The inclusions are ample: A large bedroom footprint with space for a California king if you so desire. A grand walk-in-robe for two. A beyond-generous designer ensuite complete with freestanding tub overlooking the garden. Plus a seating area inside and a full balcony to call you own.
And as you can see below, the master balcony (much like the rest of the home) is wonderfully connected to nature. It’s a luxury holiday feel without having to leave your bedroom. And when winter rolls around, the master also contains a fireplace.
Told you it was monumental.
Below: the master ensuite continues the sense of grandeur present in the bedroom beside it. And in true Metricon style, it too is flooded with natural light.
Additional Rooms to Relax and Work In
Outside of the master bedroom and potential guest bedroom you’ve seen earlier, the Metricon Lumiere display home features three more large bedrooms on the first floor, all with ensuites.
And in addition to that, there are two more living spaces (a media room downstairs and rumpus upstairs) as well as a dedicated home office on the ground floor – filled with light and custom joinery.
The need to work from home was a key consideration in the Lumiere design. The team at Metricon wanted to create multiple spaces to work in, as they were acutely aware that in this post-Covid world a number of family members would require their own workspace.
A key design trend that the Lumiere also addresses is study spaces that can be closed off from the rest of the home for video conferencing. This could be via strategically located panels and doors that can slide to make areas open and shut.
