We always have a hilarious battle in my home when it comes time to clean the house each week…
It starts with us listing which chores we did last time that get us out of doing them this time. We then tactically negotiate who is going to clean the bathrooms, who’ll sort out the kitchen, who’s going to vacuum and who gets mop duty.
There’s also the cat litters to take care of, which is probably the most disgusting of all chores, but that’s a whole other, lengthier battle. This negotiation usually involves one of us listing things we did for the other as long ago as last year, that’ll hopefully get us out of cleaning the trays. The person who ends up losing and getting litter duty usually makes the other go get wine later in the day.
After the long negotiations take place and we eventually sort out who’s doing what, we turn on the Sonos speak system we got recently and pump some tunes.
Now, I believe that house cleaning music is of vital importance. It’s the difference between lifting the lounge to vacuum under it or just doing the top and sides. The right song, that gets you in the right mood, can encourage you to put a little more elbow grease into tackling the shower scum.
Thankfully I often get out of cleaning the shower by opting to to the vacuuming, but I still know that a phenomenal track can get you scrubbing like your life depended on it.
I’ve actually dabbled with the idea of getting a cleaner before, but I suppose with the right tunes the experience of doing it yourself aint so bad!
In the spirit of making your house cleaning sessions even better – and having you shaking your booty while you spray and wipe – I’m sharing 17 house cleaning music faves from my Spotify playlist. You’ll notice there’s a bit of a girl power theme going on in this list too, which wasn’t intentional but is clearly where my musical tastes lie.
The other bonus is that I have the House Cleaning Playlist ready to go, so you can pop it on the minute you whip out the Chux and get fist pumping from the start.

Do you pump house cleaning music when you get scrubbing? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below. What’s the ultimate cleaning album that gets you dancing?

Oh Kirsten I did adore Garbage and George Michael. But as you can see I am a pop boy from way back haha. I didn’t know Personal Jesus from the name, but I just pumped it on Spotify and YES – what a song! Thanks for sharing your tracks. I can already hear the shower scum calling my name and I swear it’s not my turn!!! 🙂
