One of the biggest blunders I see people make when it comes to their kitchen design is not undertaking the planning needed to achieve a successful result. And I get it; the want to rush through to the fun reveal at the end is strong. And planning; who wants to do planning?!
But here’s the thing: failing to plan before a kitchen renovation or mini-makeover leaves you with a pantry in the wrong spot, a bin miles away from the sink, and cupboards where drawers should be. In short: a kitchen that doesn’t work. Cue the sad music!
And here’s the other thing: planning doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, the team at kaboodle has made it so easy to plan your kitchen reno that you can do it in five simple steps.
Enter the Mykaboodle Project Management Tool
Scroll on to discover how the mykaboodle project management tool works. It’s the ultimate all-in-one kitchen renovation companion that records everything in one place.
It’s the secret ingredient for avoiding costly mistakes and finally getting to realise your dream kitchen design.
This post is produced in partnership with kaboodle.
Step 1: Dream It
This is where the fun begins. kaboodle has created a style quiz you can take here that helps you discover what your ideal kitchen design style is. Answer a few quick questions and you’ll soon discover if your vibe is scandi, hamptons, industrial or something different altogether.
Once the quiz is complete, you can connect your Pinterest board to your mykaboodle so all your inspiration is in one place, making it so easy to see what style direction you’re heading in.
Connecting your Pinterest board also makes it easy to share all your ideas with your Bunnings in-store kitchen expert when you book your kitchen design consultation. This consult takes place during stage two of the process.
And don’t worry, you don’t have to have a Pinterest account; kaboodle’s inspiration gallery is packed with ideas and inspiration if you’re in need.
Step 2: Design It
Now that you’ve spent time honing in on which interior design style you want for your kitchen, it’s time to get planning. This is where you get to flex your floor plan and design skills using the 3D kaboodle planner.
Simply browse through kaboodle’s catalogue of products (everything from benchtops to handles, doors and panels), measure your space, and then see it all come to life in a 3D model of your kitchen.
This is where you can get creative. Play with different floor plan orientations until you find a layout you love and with everything in the right place.
If using the 3D kaboodle planner isn’t your thing, don’t stress; during your kitchen design consultation, your expert consultant can do it for you. It’s good to have an idea of what products you’d like though, so browsing the product catalogue is a wise idea.
Once you have your design sorted, it’s time to collect your products.
Step 3: Get It
Now that your 3D plans have been created and checked, everything will get itemised for you, so you know exactly which kaboodle products you need to shop for to see your dream kitchen reno come to life.
Your products are available through Bunnings stores, with a number of them available for you to shop for and take home on-the-spot. Some items may not be on the shelf and ready to go, but your consultant will be able to inform you of lead times for each product.
The Bunnings team can process your order for payment. They can also help you out with delivery too. And if you wish to pick-up your products, you may be able to access their two-hour courtesy hire service (at selected stores) if your car isn’t large enough.
Once you have all the items on the list, it’s time to get installing!
Step 4: Install It
The amazing thing about the mykaboodle project management tool is that you can access so much information to help you during the installation process.
You can get help on safely demolishing and removing your old kitchen. You can obtain a kitchen renovation timeline so you know what should be done when. And, you can even read up on specific install tips for the products you’ve purchased.
You’re also able to record all your information in one place. Things like the list of trades you’ll need to bring in for some aspects of the install (plumber and electrician, for example) can be recorded inside the project management tool.
While the beauty of kaboodle products is that they are DIY, you’re by no means on your own when it comes to installing everything.
Not too keen to put it together yourself? In this step, you can also find a local installer to help.
Step 5: Enjoy It
The fun reveal at the end is undoubtedly the most fun part of the process, where you get to revel in all your hard work and enjoy the kitchen of your dreams.
But as I said at the start of the post, you can’t rush to this stage. Planning is everything in a renovation. You need to do some homework before you get stuck in.
The good news: you have a safeguard in the mykaboodle project management tool
Your ideas and inspiration are recorded, your kitchen plan and products are recorded, your trades can be recorded; every part of the process is all held in one place so you don’t get confused, overwhelmed or make any costly mistakes.

Thanks Chris for your wonderful ideas. We are slowly renovating our home that we built 30 years ago- our main bedroom is next on the list & Mykaboodle will come in handy for the redesign of our wardrobe. I’ve already had a play around with it & found it so easy to use.
That’s awesome Michele. The floor planner tool is actually really fun, right? It’s nice to be able to see the possibilities – allows you to visualise it more and makes it feel real.
