How good is it to have a design moment at home that nobody else has? It could be cabinets in your kitchen, wall paneling in your living room, joinery in your laundry or a tailor-made workspace.
The secret to creating a moment like this is out; it’s called kaboodle x Coloursmith. The coming together of these two brands means you can now apply your very own individually-created Taubmans paint to kaboodle’s raw board panels.
The result: a bespoke DIY design feature for multiple rooms at home! And in today’s post, we’re taking a look at a completed project to get you inspired to create your own custom kaboodle moment. Enjoy!
This post is produced in partnership with kaboodle.
Turn Your Fave Colour into a Bespoke Paint Product
The inspiration for this makeover, carried out by the talented Rachael Turner from Front Porch Properties, came from a piece of jewellery her client had treasured for years.
Its calm blue tone was created using the Coloursmith app and informed the Taubmans paint that was created for use in the kitchen revamp, which was to take on a soothing coastal vibe that felt warm and inviting.
The fact that a custom paint colour was created that nobody else can replicate (unless you want them to!) is just the start of what makes this DIY journey so impressive.
Apply the Paint to kaboodle’s Paint Your Own Door Range
Once created, Rachael applied the custom paint colour to kaboodle’s raw board paint your own door range. The good news: it’s so easy that you can do it at home too!
The great thing about kaboodle’s paint your own doors range is that it comes in four different board profiles (Modern, Heritage, Country and Alpine). Choose the design that works best for you and then cover it in your fave colour.
The boards can be used for so many purposes across the home too. Consider them for kitchens (of course) but also laundries, bathrooms, home offices, custom furniture like sideboards and bench seating, and so much more!
Mix Your Custom Colour Board with Off-the-Shelf Products
In this stunning kitchen transformation, Rachael used both the paint your own doors and some of kaboodle’s off-the-shelf macaroon on vertical planes. It features a smooth and silky finish that works wonders in a traditional or contemporary home.
“[The macaroon is] already pre-finished which saves time and money,” Rachel explains. “But we then like to mix in some of the paint your own panels because. It’s pretty much the best of both worlds for us.”
For the kitchen, Rachael also used kaboodle’s american oak benchtop for its inherently warm, earthy qualities.
“Stone tops are great for cooking surfaces, but can often be cold to the touch when sitting at them,” she says. “I find that there’s just something so warm and welcoming about sitting at a wooden island”.
Go Bespoke In Other Areas Like Your Laundry
As mentioned above, the paint your own door range is not just for kitchens. In this home, Rachael took the tailor-made approach into her client’s laundry too.
A custom green paint colour was applied to the VJ panels on the wall behind the basin, with beautifully curved american oak floating shelves added to take the look next-level.
“This was a nice changeup from the standard squared edging. We even cut a piece of oak for the tumble dryer to sit on. This adds a more custom feel, rather than just a standard white shelf”.
Outta-The-Box Ways to Use kaboodle’s Range
The oak benchtop you saw earlier in the soothing blue kitchen was also cut into strips and applied to the laundry wall to create a dynamic focal point (as seen above). Rachael even made some custom hooks from the offcuts.
It’s moments like this that really allow you to appreciate just how customisable the kaboodle products are, and how with a little imagination you can create some truly unique design moments across the rooms of your home.
“We love that kaboodle is not just a flat pack range, but it has the option to customise your spaces with the paint your own series. This is something that really allows us to put our own stamp on our projects,” Rachael says.
The kaboodle Planning Software is Easy to Use
Kaboodle’s 3D planner tool makes it easy to have your dream room design come to life. And you can use it to map out your kitchen, laundry, study or other home project ideas.
The Kaboodle website provides you with a tonne of information on how to use the planner, along with loads of other DIY resources and inspiration.
“You can either plan it out yourself, or have one of the Bunnings in-house consultants help you with your design,” Rachael tells me. “All round, they have pretty much made the option to build-your-own very user friendly”.
Assembly is a Cinch Too!
Once you’ve created your dream space and ordered all the supplies you need to make it amazing, Rachael says that the putting together of products is a smooth journey to navigate.
“We always find kaboodle flat packs easy to work with. It is a fairly straightforward process for any DIY’er to put the actual flatpack carcasses together themselves”.

I love the idea of using a piece of jewellery, or something so personal to make it your own. We used the Kaboodle hardwood in our laundry. The instructions were easy to follow regarding sealing the surface in the area.
Rachael did a great job.
